One FRPG besides D&D

For me, it's difficult to say. There are quite a few games I've enjoyed but...

Rolemaster

Legend 5 Rings

Exalted

Palladium Fantasy (It's almost d20!)

GURPS Fantasy

Hero Fantasy

That's the order I'd play 'em in too.

If I had to choose just one game other than 3E to play, it would be Ars Magica hands down. D&D 3E actually borrowed a lot from Ars Magica thanks to Jonathan Tweet's influence (DCs for skills and saves; stat blocks for monsters with abilities, skills, and feats listed, etc). Problem is, almost nobody knows about Ars Magica or cares to play it since it involves a VERY different style of play than regular D&D.

Other games I love to run/play:

Deadlands (not the bastard d20 version)
WHFRP
Call of Cthulhu (BRP, although the d20 version is growing on me)
Chill (I used to love that game!)
Kult (if you have a really mature group of gamers, it can be really intense)

I'd give Lord of the Rings a try. Or go back to Earthdawn.

On a side note, just picked a copy of the new LOTR RPG. It's an interesting read, but not sure it's a good fit for my group.

WHFRP - assuming that I still have D&D too of course. If I had to choose ONE FRP except D&D, I have no idea (I would have to search for one that suits me) but it probably wouldn't be WHFRP.

Warhammer Fantasy RPG.
