One game to rule them all

My friends and I are looking to run a D&D game every other week for a while. We've all played D&D before, but it's been many years. We want to play one complete and really fun campaign. There'll be 6 characters starting at level 6, and going presumably up to level 20. We want a setting that's traditional high fantasy like Forgotten Realms, and we're going to use the 3.5e rule set. We can use any books or supplements that fit that description. We also want an over-arching story line between adventures. I was thinking of running one of the Pathfinder adventure paths like The Shackled City or trying War of the Burning Sky. Does anyone have any input? If you could run 1 ultimate campaign with your friends what would it be? Thanks!

I'm curious: Why start at level 6? If you decide to play an adventure path you'll miss out on the most fun part, the first two or three adventures that would define the theme of the campaign. With six characters, using an adventure path may also require some adaptation. Shackled city was intended for a party of five. I'm not sure about War of the Burning Sky, but the 3.5 version is probably written for a party of four.

I have and would like to run either of them, but it means a serious investment of time, which I simply didn't have yet.
