OOC: Pushing on then.

fantasy-story-dark-fantasy.jpg

The walkway finally levels out as it reaches the top of the cliff you've been scaling. Ahead lies a dismal, rockstrewn plateau covered with a forest of dead trees, only thier blackened, skeletal trunks and branches remaining. Heavy mist swirl through the desolate landscape, giving it an eerie feeling and limiting visibility to a mere 40'. The walkway ends under a partially collapsed arch decorated with a monogram of the letters "LG". A path leads off from the arch, but it soon branches in two different directions. At the fork you can see a toppled statue lying on the ground.

Stone benches encircle the base of the arch, a place for the weary to rest after their climb.

OOC: An excellent spot for a short rest. As the fog hides you as well as everything else.

Mister Bubbles is relieved to be on solid ground again, and away from the vicious claws and beaks of birds. He sits himself down, grimacing as he notices that he is injured more severely than he first realized, and yet, awaits his turn to be healed without complaining.

"Creepy place," he says with a nonchalance that is betrayed by the hoarseness of his voice.

"Yes. Bilkar legs short. Tired." Bilkar Sits rubbing his thighs and getting his waterskin out for a drink, offering it to others after taking some for himself.

OOC: I'll spend a HD to heal some [roll0]

Bilkar looks around frowning, trying to find any signs of life, plant or animal... Everything looks so dead and... scary...

OOC: Oh right, I keep forgetting I can use a HD on a rest. I'll do the same: [roll0]

So I'm back on 5 hp. Healing is not urgent at the moment.

OOC: Lee will spend a HD since so many others are. We'll all need a long rest, probably, after the next fight.
hp [roll0] well that sucks

current hp: 9/10
unspent HD: 0

The group spends the next hour or so cleaning the scratches and tears they received from the evil blood hawks. Bilkar looks around as he sits on the bench drinking and sees no animals at all. A few birds head towards the area but quickly dart away from the dead trees instead of landing.

Rested and ready to go, though Ryder still feels a bit bruised from his fall, the group moves down the only path. It comes to a "Y" where the fallen statue of a robed man rests in the dirt. Looking as best you can down each path, you can see the shadowy stone forms of what could be more statues down the left juncture, but only more trees to the right.

OOC: Investigation if you want a better look at the statue. Lets not forget about the Garden of Death Hakon told you all about (10 pages and 2 months ago lol).

Ivar gladly takes a rest and bandages his wounds at the top of the cliff in the little benches and archway in the fog.

Hit Dice: 1D12+3 = [12]+3 = 15

He feels much better following the rest, and they head into the forest of dead trees, stopping to examine a statue on the way. As Lee examined the statue, he tried to listen to try and hear any trouble in the fog, but he could hear nothing.

Lee:

The statue is of an elderly man clad in rich robes. His face seems twisted in an expression of shock and agony, and he holds his hands as if warding off something in front of him. There is no base about for this statue.

The monk knows this is no carved statue, but was once a living man.

Ivar

The fog is tricky to your dwarven sight, as it is not actually dark. You rub your eyes trying to focus as they start to water.

“We’re seekin’ the bluidy Althon Escandor,” Ivar reminded Lee. “I’d just as soon avoid petrifyin’ beasts,” he pointed out. “He had t’ come up this way.”

The duergar started to look around for tracks from the head of the stairs.

Bilkar Gnome Druid

Bilkar frowns at the astonishing lack of life. Looking around for a few moments he pulls something out of his pack. Thumbing through a palm full of seeds he apparently finds something he doesn't feel belongs, picks it out, examines it and tosses it over his shoulder, possibly hitting someone with the pebble.

Finding the seeds he is looking for he places them int the ground next to the arch and casts a spell, green light emanating from his hand as 3 vines sprout from the ground and latch to the arch about 2 inches up.

Bilkar seems much happier with himself and is ready to go.

Listening to Ivar and Lee Bilkar mutters "Bilkar not statue." seeming not keen on the idea of encountering this woman that turns people to stone and starts looking around for tracks as well.

OOC: Just using Druidcraft to give the seeds a head start, butBilkar being Bilkar he is pretty confident that he just saved all life on this island.

Survival: [roll0]

Mister Bubbles gets up from his spot under the tree, feeling better. He eyes the statue suspiciously, as if at any time it could animate and attack, but moves towards Bilkar.

The half-orc is puzzled by the gnome, and despite his frequent annoyance there is a larger part of him that is intrigued. Not asking for answer he will not understand, Mister Bubbles merely watches the squirrelly gnome plant some seeds and makes them grow.

Suddenly feeling jealous of this gift of creation, the warlock suppresses the urge to burn the seedling away with magical fire. He snarles and looks away, realizing it may appear that he is angry with the new life but not trusting himself to explain his true feelings.

Instead, he says bluntly, "We need to go. Catch ourselves a fugitive."

He nods to Ivar, who has the same idea. "Found any tracks?"

A rock hits Ryder in the nose as he is trying to doze. He jerks awake. “It wasn’t me, I swear...”

He looked around at his companies, confused, then stands.

“I guess we should get going?”

OOC: Bilkar found some fresh human boot tracks. Possibly Althon. He also notices some very old strange tracks...

The "squirrelly" gnome points out a set of boot tracks fresh in the dirt of the trail. And then he stops and drops to all fours and starts quickly working his way back and forth along the "Y" section. He sees criss-crossing scratches in the dirt, as if someone had dragged a bundle of sticks every which way and then some. The he stands holding a small twig between his fingers.

"Walking branches," he whispers in awe. "Trees given legs. Very dangerous."

OOC: Everyone may roll a Nature check. DC16
The "tree tracks" are mainly around and go down the right path. The human boot prints go down the left (towards the other statues).

"Walking branches?" Mister Bubbles echoes derisively. "That's not possible."

The half-orc, having lived in captivity for most of his life and in urban environments at that, is not familiar with the outdoors except for those few stretches between towns. Even so, he knows many stories and myths are true at their core, but Mister Bubbles is still jealous of the life giving magics that Bilkar seems to possess and is not ready to heed the gnome's warnings.

"We can burn down the trees if we need to."

In spite of his bluster, the half-orc makes no move against any living thing, instead waiting for someone to take the lead.
