One shot ideas

I like to have a couple of planned adventures that lend themselves to specific types of characters ready to go. Normally it is a few short encounters, some combat, some rp, some skill challenges.

For instance, I planned one for a gnome rogue that had to recover a very valuable flute that someone stole from his grandmother. It was short and the player loved it. He liked the character as well.

My group is only me, my girlfriend and my best friend. Sometimes we have another friend join in, and the players don't like giving people characters of high level, since they didn't earn it in play. So we do one shot adventures on those nights.

So we have finally played through the ones I have made and I want to hear some of your ideas for short, easy one shot adventures. The basis of the campaign world is that nothing on the campaign world is created until it is used in game. We don't know what the world looks, there are no cities or towns, only small villages. There was a cataclysm 2 years ago. So throw some ideas out, and help flesh out the campaign world!

A young elvin woman has come to town looking for a suitable suitor to marry and secure her lands from her jealous brother. However, the suitors keep turning up dead. Only steps ahead of an angry mob that believes she is the culprit, she seeks the character's aid, protesting the deaths are the work of her brother's agents. She pleads with the characters to return to her homeland and put down her brother so she can finally live in peace.

However, the elvin woman is, in fact, a terrible ogress who really is responsible for the murders. She simply hopes to lure the PCs to her ogre brother and do them in before moving to another town.

I like it. I could run that one pretty easily since their highest level characters are elves. Great idea.

Anyone else got anything?

If you are looking for any published one shots, that's exactly what my company (Sneak Attack Press) has published so far. If you don't want to buy anything, you are free to steel the plot lines and create your own encounters around them.

In one the characters are asked to find a local goblin hunter who has gone missing.
They eventually find him in a cave, where his body has been taken over by a swarm of psychic spiders. The spiders are looking to expand their swarm as use the PCs as hosts.

In another the characters go into a haunted orphanage to rescue some missing children. They see visions from the orphanage's past and finally discover that
the woman who used to run the orphanage killed each child upon reaching puberty, until the remaining children trapped her in the basement. Her spirit now haunts the place.

Finally in one adventure a noble asks the characters to protect his feast, in which he will give an ancient holy relic to one of two good churchs.
An evil faith that also wants the relic attacks the feast, and likely runs off with it, so the heroes need to chase them down.
