I was thinking we might like to get at least out of sight and away from the monastery, and then take advantage of an hour's rest vis a vis Carradoc's rope trick. After that, we'd probably be healed up enough to walk a bit to get to a place we could shelter for a long rest, at which point we'd presumably be away from the monastery and feeling better about relying on Thaliss's abiity to dig us a hole in the ground.

Once we do a long rest, I'm easy where we go next. Dent has a hard on (pardon the phrase) for finding his Knight Captain ASAP, but he's only one of six and I, the player, don't give a fig where we go. Red Larch is fine. Back to the monastery to kick ass and take names is fine. The tower thing with the rich kids is fine.

OOC and metagame-wize, Damien should be just fine with a short rest. Burn all of my Hit Die for healing and I'll basically be like new. IC-ly, he would feel that the Monastery is probably too much for the group to handle currently after the recent combat. Not to say he won't go along with the group.

Aridha would get her wildshapes back, and she still has a few 1st level spells...but her higher level slots are busted and ain't coming back without a full night's rest.

Though as an elf, a full night is actually 4 hours for her.

Depends on the DM, per the most recent Sage Advice. RAI is apparently that a Long Rest is 8 hours of light activity, regardless of how much time is required for sleep. The Trance thing is apparently one of those "ribbon" abilities that add flavor rather than a solid mechanical benefit.

Everyone cool to take a short rest using rope trick once we're out of sight of the monastery, then immediately seek out a place to take a long rest? Can Carradoc go ahead and post that much in the IC?

We can work out where to head next once we've done the long rest.

OK, this works for Thaliss. He won't have made a entire fort right away then, since we would have had this discussion IC.
If we do opt for the long rest prior to re-attacking the temple, he'll make a fort ;-)
Cheers,

SG

I technically agree with the sage advice. That said, I think it's a low importance distinction. Very rarely will someone get 4 hours of rest but not 8 in my experience. Groups are different though. I remember one game I played in (someone's uncle's game) 15+ years ago where you literally couldn't rest outside of a town. Every enemy was smarter than you, more clever than you, better planned than you, and would ambush you constantly at every single opportunity. That's great if that's what your group wants. I found it a bit unrealistic sometimes. It felt like the DM assumed whatever he came up with in his head was always the "more clever" option than the players... but I don't think that's accurate or authentic to most settings. I'm not saying his style wasn't fun, it was, for the right players. It just doesn't strike me as matching with most groups I've played with and most senses of setting.

This game in particular I want to be a little bit more relaxed even than I would be at the table-top. I'll roll random encounters for your attempt to rest, respecting what clever strategies the group employs, and I'll "roll" with whatever the dice decide. It could be bad. It could be easy. So far we have not had many random encounters. Usually I would reduce random encounters for PbP, but not for this particular game.

I don't want us to stall out trying to decide where to go next after our long rest (thanks, Creamsteak, for the unmolested rest periods). I feel I had more than my share of say in going to the keep and the monastery, so I'm looking for someone to pipe up and lead us to our next destination. Dent will follow along. Thanks!
