It felt like a filler episode to me. There were some good quips to make it worthwhile, but it was far from stellar.

I think the thing that most bothered me was how Gunn was left behind. It felt like a DM railroading a plotpoint or scrambling to fix an earlier "oops". Something of a Deus ex Machina.

Joss the DM: Crap! I need a way for Team Angel to get info on the senior partners. I'd meant to use Lindsay, but I forgot that and banished him four sessions ago. Well, I suppose I can let them break him out.

Joss/DM: Oh, yeah. I'm pretty much done with Gunn. I should probably write him out before he becomes a fifth wheel. Hmm... if I throw in a mechanism where they have to exchange someone for Lindsay, I could just ditch Gunn that way.

I channel surfed during a break and missed most of the "why he didn't try to kill them" bit with the terminator. It seemed pretty lame from what I caught (yeah, I'm just here to talk, that why I put my fist through a guy on the way in) but I was wondering if anyone could fill me in.

actually most of it felt pretty lame. Not really worth the wait, and the few good gags weren't enough. And I had a painful Total Recal flashback when wifey went after them with an uzi... (its a mystical holding dimension and everyone is packing automatic weapons. Kay.....)

Gotta disagree. Not only did it not feel like that to me but there have been spoilers since last year about what was going to happen with Linsey & Gunn. And Deus Ex Machina would have been if they all got out okay. There was a huge sacrifice made which has been foreshadowed since Gunn made his big error with Fred. Gunn knew what was happening the whole time when they went to save Linsey.

And don't assume Gunn is out of the picture. I don't think his story is over...

Hmm, odd. I was highly entertained by both of those sequences.

Hamilton's entrance was neat. He was there to show that he meant business. Someone got in his way so he killed him. Simple as that. Angel has done it before. No big. Fun scene.

What struck me was that Adam Baldwin barely seems like the same guy that played Jayne Cobb. A sharp razor and a good tailor go a long way it seems...

Fight scene was okay but it did leave a bit to be desired. I had no problem with Gunn's fate. He chose to stay. The Ilyria stuff was a little boring but it did give us a little more insight so it wasn't all bad. I'll have to go back and watch this arc again without the 6 week break. It took me about half the episode to get back into the groove of the show.

Fight scene jumped around too much. Maybe their budget was cut when they were canceled?
I understand Gunns Choice. I just think it's Eh. What info did they really gain from Lindsey? It seems a lot to leave him behind for a small chance at some possible information.
OTOH, I understand Gunns choice, he was simply looking for a chance to sacrifice himself.

I like Ilyria, it just seemed that we spent this episode reaching the decision that they reached last time, and I wanted to see an expansion of it. I'd also like it if they asked her about Wolf, Ram & Hart.

Or maybe I'm just getting old and crazier. *mutters something about creamed rice*

I quite agree. BBC Canada shows programs the same way, and it is a very refreshing change from the rest of the dial. Now if only they would get off their butts and start playing the next series of Merseybeat, then I'll be happy.

This episode of Angel, as usual, I heavily enjoyed. After going for 5 weeks with no Angel, it's gonna be kinda like that little suburban Hell when Angel really does leave the air.

Three favorite scenes stand out in my mind:

Hamilton punching through the lawyer, and Harmony/Lorne/Eve all screaming like little girls.

Wesley's implied abuse of Illyria. Wesley, being as dynamic as he is, has stricken me as being a VERY abusive person - the funny part is he abuses people who he knows either deserve it or can take it. Getting drunk and cursing out Illyria - I know he does it just to show his power over her, but the lines that came from it strike me with a sort of dark humor. And, of course, the Smurf line... Amy Acker kicks royal butt in her role. I'm glad she's with the show till the end (or hope she is), and she did Fred real justice. I hope to see more of her work in the future.

Finally, The "no , Sherlock" moment at the end. I admit, it IS possible that Angel and crew didn't see what was happening, but I'm finding it a little hard to swallow. I'm very badly wanting to see Angel's solution to the problem, but I'm hoping it's going to be something to make my jaw drop, rather than the kind of ending to Buffy that really seemed too fast and too perfect a wrap up. If Angel at the end gets his redeption and dies as a result, I'll be happy. Spike doesn't deserve it - not yet - but he does deserve to carry on in Angel's footsteps.

In the end, all I'm hoping for in the last 5 Episodes, is a lot of laughs, a good bit of pathos and compassion, and a closer that feels like a realistic closer, without all ends being wrapped up.
