Today's word of the day is connotation. Angels don't have a connotation of "giant wingless guy" or "floating eyeballs." It is very rare that D&D choses something that conflicts with connotation. I don't see it happening here.

I would imagine the far more numerous devils and demons would be a far larger issue than angels in this situation. Are angels confirmed as in the new Monster Manual?
Quite a lot of people believe that angels are real things, so WotC are going to want to handle them sensitively, and avoid contracting real world beliefs.
There is past history of avoiding the word “angel” in D&D, giving them different names instead.

Their rims were high and awesome, and all four rims were full of eyes all around

Small caveat about Humanoids: there won't be Drow or Orc stat blocks, but those are either being changed to a different Creature Type or changed into general NPCs that can be any Species. All the creatures from the 2014 MM are coming back as far as I know.

That was in the Everything You Want to Know article on Beyond, the Humanoid stat blocks are being repurposed into generic NPCs like Pirate or Cultist.Where did they sat there will be no Orc or Drow stat blocks?
