D&D (2024) Why aren't Angels concidered a type of Empryeans?

Anyone else uncertain about what the difference low wise is between Empyreans and Angels is?

Angels in 5e 2014 were made from a God's own Astral Essence, basically made/spawned by Gods.

2025 Empyreans are beings spawned by God's via various means.

Why aren't Angels considered Empyreans?

Is it because they don't have a fiends option?

While I'm at it they should have made a point that an Empyrean Iota with worship or another influx of power could become an Empyrean.

Also anyone else find it interesting that Empyreans instead of just being a single type of creature has become a family of related Planar species like Demons, Angels, Yugoloths, Angels, Eladarin, Guardinals, Archons, Devils, Slaads, Tulani, Sworrowsworn, Modrons, Genies, Demodands, and Devils?

I also find it interesting that they are the first universal Planar species.

And I'm glad they followed my suggestion that Empyreans be able to be either fiends or celestials.

They may be changed in the upcoming MM to have different origins that don't match up with Empyreans.

Empyreans are the old Titans from previous editions, but they weren't like Titans from Greek Myth, they're more like Demigods such as Herakles and the like.

Angels might be spawned spotaneously by the Upper Planes or they might be ascended souls of dead mortals.

It would also be a strange choice for something called an "angel," considering angel means messenger or emissary.

Angels will always be the ascended souls of petitioners to me. Gives those folks something to look forward to!

They could fit 4e style angels in Empyreans, and that might be the goal, since that was one of the more popular 4e-isms. Solars, etc, have been more good than god for a while, especially since they could have been working for a celestial paragon since 2e. At the end of 5e, the archons were basically "lesser LG outsiders", which left angels to be "greater LG outsiders" or potentially just "greater G outsiders", although if sphinxes end up as celestials, they might also fill that role.

Can’t really discuss until we see if there are any revisions to the angel lore

My preference would be they just drop Angel entirely and just go with Empyrean/Solar for the "messenger of the gods" role

5e 2014 lore has already been retconned plenty in 2024, such a change would hardly be a surprise at this point.
