ooh, i died! what should i play next?

The revenge-bent twin brother of the deceased? No? Twin sister, then, and play the "does she have a beard" card for maximum effect? Or maybe back to the brother, who is a (bad) cross dresser, and the origin of the whole bearded lady dwarves question.

But on a more serious note, the monk is a good idea, assuming it fits the party. Tripping and grappling are fun, and so is unarmed damage, which, unless a new edition or erratta has corrected, can be either subdual or lethal. So, if you can lay in some subdual hits on an enemy before the real damage knocks 'em down, they'll survive, and then you get to roleplay deciding what to do with prisoners, and also interrogating said prisoners.

Have you ever seen a PC tell another PC that it's ok to kill the unconscious prisoner because it's an orc, then remember that the other PC is a half-orc? Who will violently resent such a remark? Pure gold...

I vote for dwarven druid. I've been playing one for a while now and I thoroughly enjoy it. Another odd, yet fun, combination is half-orc monk.

I agree with Isida. Do a fighter that is a generalsit. high strength for more than weapon damage and to hit but t o carry all the weapons he has. Forget Exotic weapons or Weapon focus. Go Quickdraw, Expertise, Power attack, Point blank shot. Be able to use any weapon you need. Use bolos (take the non wpn prof) and polearms and short swords and hand axes and javelins and every thing else. And if you can use a feat to get a class skill (Like FR cosmopolitian) Get tumble. I played a guy like that at 1-4th level and he was fun.

great combat scenes switching from weapon to weapon. Invest in potions to boost your ability like bull strength, cat grace and Bear end. Stay away from heavy armor stick with light and mobile. Maybe even a Swashbuckler type person. I like straight fighter just to pick up the start of several fighting feat chains.

Hmmm... Wacky but Serious.

A priest of a roguish god, like a god to drinking, wealth, merriement, etc. Great if you have a paladin on the party.

Dwarf Monk/Drunken Master. Great Times there.

A human two-weapon fighter, using every possible TWF feat available. (high dex required). Give him whatever personality you deem playable.

A sorcerer/rogue or bard con-man who is hard drinking, high-living, Kid-Rockish type. Smiles alot, never lets anything get to him specializes in charms and escape magic.

A Int:3 barbarian named Thud (self-named). Half-orc, great-club, good-natured, loyal to a fault to his "tribe" but easiliy manipulated.

Lest not forget the unholy terror that a gnomish druid can be...

I dig the Dwarven Monk/Drunken Master idea, but I can go one better! Use the Book of Exalted Deeds and take the Vow of Nonviolence feat, or even the Vow of Peace feat! It has some nice bonuses to compensate for "losing" out on what so many consider a vitally important part of the game (combat, tho you can still do subdual with Vow of Nonviolence), but even better are the role-playing possibilities. You could play him like the wacky, somewhat stupid character with a heart of gold, who will stand up for anyone and whose hope and optimism are a palpable forces emanating from his body (oh, wait, that's his booze-breath) that's common in so many movies. You know, the one whose the butt of every joke, but whom the pretty girl always defends, and then at the end has the sweet moment wherein he explains everything to the hero, who rushes out to get the girl, while all the women, gay men, and others attracted to men actually fall in love with him, forgetting the teenage hunk-a-day hot stuff's name, even.

Wow, I went a little far in that. Maybe I should make this character for MY game . . . . :-)

Dwarven Monk! Become a grapple-master and you'll instantly become the halfling rogue's best friend! (As a fellow halfling rogue, I know I could use one to play with!)
