Belkar Stats

Okay, here's my interpretation of Belkar. It's easier to just stat him that say "Well, I see him as more of a..." This is an RPG forum, after all.

Going off of my available materials only:

Belkar
Chaotic Evil Jungle Halfling (Unearthed Arcana)
Ranger 11, using the following class features/variants: Melee Combat Style (duh), UA Urban Ranger, UA Favored Environments (City +4, Underground +4, and Temperate Forest +2), PHB II Distracting Shot

Barbarian 3, UA Whirling Frenzy Rage variant
(Maybe a level or two of Assassin instead of Barbarian? He seems the type, and Rangers are good as Assassins)

Stats: (30-point point buy at level 1, but current stats as a level 14 who put three points into Dex)
Str 14
Dex 19
Con 14
Int 10
Wis 10
Cha 12

Feats, roughly in order:
Weapon Finesse
Weapon Focus: Dagger
Combat Reflexes
Improved Critical: Dagger
Robilar's Gambit (PHB II)

Gear: Nothing flashy, other than the Ring of Jumping, but those daggers are probably at least +1.

Skills:
Too much complication to bother with, and not relevant to the discussion, but no Spot. ^_^

Edit for variant correction and Power Attack removal

I disagree on this one. He doesn't cast spells because he can't cast spells, but that's because his Wisdom is too low.

Back in the big battle against the Linear Guild in the Dungeon of Dorukan, as Elan lay dying, Vaarsuvius used Owl's Wisdom to temporarily boost Belkar's Wisdom to the point that he could use some of the Cure scrolls that the unconscious Durkon had.

I forgot about that... which is odd since I read it three days ago.

I also forgot about the Power Attack rules, and the fact that Rangers aren't the ones who can't take Finesse at level 1 (I keep thinking of him as a Rogue)

So, edited for those two issues.

Normally, I don't really care for Belkar, but this one was awesome.

As for his fighting skills, I've always pictured Belkar having a particularly nasty - not really broken, but *nasty* - feat from AEG's Feats book, which gave +2 to damage (and possibly +2 to attack?) only when using two daggers. And it *stacked with itself.*

Slap a couple of those on the Belkster and his damage potential makes more sense. Obviously he's using the grandfathered 3.0 weapon sizing rules, too. ;)

Sadly, No. Belkar is suffering as was pointed out in Strip # 1
