I love OotS, but MAN does Rich need to get the party back together, Roy back from the dead, and get the thing rolling again.

On the other hand, it certainly would be a refreshing change of pace for one of Rich's subplots.![]()
So I, for one, am willing to be as patient as necessary.
Anyone who is analyzing the tactics V is using here is completely missing the point of the last panel.
V casts Disintegrate because the dragon asked him to do so, one more time. Remember when it first showed up? And he was out of Disintegrates? This is a callback to that. It's saying, "Hey, I was out of Disintegrates when you came by before, but I'm stocked up now. Let's fight." It is in no way expected to kill the dragon in one shot.
If anything, it is a statement that V is so much superior to the dragon now that he can waste a 10th level spell slot for the sole purpose of taunting her.
That look said, "What kind of a dumbass throws a Fort save against a dragon?"
