Why do I get the feeling like something else is speaking through the familiar?

Like Shojo?

I had begun to speculate that maybe the familiar isn't really there at all - that's why nobody else noticed it - but was instead V's inner conscience manifesting as a hallucination on account of V's brain being broken from recent events. Until it got distracted by a shiny bauble, which seemed raven-like enough that I dismissed the idea.

On the other hand, it's not entirely un-V-like to be distracted by something gaudy, so maybe...

Actually, the bauble to me confirmed the fact that the raven is real. Everyone knows that ravens like shiny things.

As I said, that was my initial reaction as well. But the thing is, if everyone knows that ravens like shiny things, then so does V, so this could simply be V subconsciously adding an extra layer of verisimilitude to the delusion.

I don't think Vaarsuvius could hallucinate his own familiar. It's well established that the familiar isn't there when he forgets about it, but is automatically present when he remembers. If he's thinking about it, it has to be there. The only way he could imagine it without it being there would be if he didn't actually have a familiar.

In one of the early comics, the raven gets shot at by tons of bandit archers! Just recently Xykon interacted with it. Of course the raven's real and visible to others! The party might not have noticed it because they're a bunch of unperceptive dolts, but that doesn't mean it wasn't there.

I wasn't trying to suggest that it had never been real - only that the version currently sitting on V's shoulder and constantly interacting with him, but being totally ignored by everyone else, is not real.
