He's double bluffing. I reckon the gate is there, and someone's going to say (accidentally or not) some words related to someone else who Girard trusts a bit more than Soon.

I can't buy that. If they showed up and the illusion popped up first thing, then yes. They've spent hours (days?) seaching this patch of desert with spells and skills. If there were something there to find, especially if it was a Gate-defending dungeon complex, then they would have found it. I'm sure Girard is very good, but no illusion spell is that good.

On the other hand, him having lied about the location in the first place makes good sense.

So he splashed Ranger to get duel wielding. I always wondered why an illusionist was walking around with two swords.

Illusionist and tracker, from the earlier bits of their story.

I have to say, I like this guy. Still, didn't Soon and co. all seal the gate with him? It has to be somewhere in the desert, right? They (Soon's party) just didn't know where exactly, since Girard was the one who got them there and back...

Also, wasn't there mutual consent to a warning system so each would know if other gates were being screwed with? Either Girard's isn't working, or he just didn't care.

Or he could be dead, or he knows and is currently defending the real gate. If the gate was in the surrounding area, I doubt he would reveal himself to the group unless he trusts them.

It'd say it's the last option. Note the non-stop insults hurled at Soon, none of which were, funny enough, true in the slightest.

Girard is cool because we're not playing with him. If you had to deal with a player that acted like him, you'd strangle him before the first game was done.

I think what would be more interesting is if they mention the names of the OTHER adventurers who went along with Girard and see what the automated message has to say about them.

Quite likely, since Xykon's working from the halfling's journal rather than Soon's info. I wonder if this is part of the reason the oracle was trying not to answer Roy's question about the next gate?

The reason the kobold didn't want to answer Roy's question was because he had forgotten to include Soon's gate in mix, which was the next one Xykon was going to be at.

You had to know it wouldn't be this easy....

Yeah, but I was kinda looking forward to a good old fashioned dungeon crawl. The party is overdue for one.

The party is in a big bind here, because Xykon has the real location since he's not depending on either Gerard or Soon to know where the next gate is (he has it from the halfling's diary). So they've got to solve this problem and get back on the trail in a hurry.

I think Girard has only partially bluffed. I think the gate is still somewhere in the desert.
