I don't think so. They have been wandering around the Western Continent for some time (months) after V did his/her thing. The bodies look too fresh, especially with bugs munching on them.

Besides, SOMEBODY cast the scrying eye spell thingy seen here: Giant In the Playground Games

Man, how did you remember that? That was almost 150 strips ago! My memory seems to be good for about 15-20 strips and then it's mindwipe before that.... :p

damn short(long)-term memory loss...

I cheated slightly. I went back and looked. That's a fairly important strip (for the fans, anyway) because it shows us the map of the Western Continent.

And, it looks like it hasn't been as long as I thought. It could only be several weeks, although it seems like they took a long time in the capital of the Empire of Blood. It just may mean a lot happened in a short period of time. Between the gladiator fights and the father/son reunions, we had a ton of story happen there.

I don't recall where it was revealed that someone in the Linear Guild cast the scrying eye. Does anyone have a reference?

Do you think durkon prepared Speak with Dead? Or left a spell slot open?

Cleric magic doesn't work like that. They must prepare at dawn or dusk, and they don't get to leave slots open like a Wizard can. Well, they can leave slots open, but they can't do anything with them until the next time they prepare spells at dawn or dusk.

Really? They actually gave the wizards and advantage that wasn't automatically granted to clerics too? What you say rings a bell, and I think most of the groups I know forgot that and let clerics pray up a spell slot too!

Still, back to the point - has durkon prepared a speak with dead? I would have thought it a useful spell for a common low level slot at his level. Wait and see!

Given there seems to be plot-related reasons why a group of 15th level characters is still spending days walking from location to location, probably not. Even having a caster that is forbidden to cast conjuration spells doesn't explain why they're not "scrying and frying" locations they CAN scry, or at least a Mass Overland Flight spell. At least there wouldn't be deities standing around the wizard mistaking it for Math Overload Fright...

Of course, any divination they have is apparently about as useful as a cell phone in a horror movie. I fail to see how the Stick PC's plan to arrive anywhere before the enemies have arrived, done their business, grew bored waiting for the PC's, and left.

Well, when a Wizard knows every spell on his spell list and can prepare any of them he wants each morning, then the Clerics can complain about not being able to prepare mid-day... until then, they'll just have to learn to live with only being nearly omnipotent.

Actually, clerics can. It's just worded poorly.

Divine Spells :: d20srd.org

"Spell Selection and Preparation

A divine spellcaster selects and prepares spells ahead of time through prayer and meditation at a particular time of day. The time required to prepare spells is the same as it is for a wizard (1 hour), as is the requirement for a relatively peaceful environment. A divine spellcaster does not have to prepare all his spells at once. However, the character’s mind is considered fresh only during his or her first daily spell preparation, so a divine spellcaster cannot fill a slot that is empty because he or she has cast a spell or abandoned a previously prepared spell."

Tried to break the relevant bits up for clarity with different formatting. They can fill unfilled alots during the day, the rules are just (redundantly) stating they can't fill already used slots or un-prepare already filled slots to prep a different spell.

So yeah, score another victory for CoDZilla.

You're right, it is worded poorly. But it definitely says that spells can only be prepared at a certain time of day. So you can leave slots open, but unless it's the same time of day that you always prepare your spells, you can't fill those empty slots later in the day.
