Oozes and elemental-damage weapons

Suppose you're facing an ochre jelly and hit it with a +1 flaming longsword. The longsword does no damage, and the jelly splits in two as a result of the hit, but does the fire damage still affect it? I presume so, but I want to be sure.

Unless the ochre jely is specifically resistant or immune to fire, a flaming sword shoudl do full flaming-only damage to the ochre jelly.

Your best bet is, instead of SWINGING the sword at the jelly ... just HOLD it against it ... IOW, strike with the FLAT of the blade, for ONLY the fire damage.
