Optimized mage combos

Mister Karin's Dad,

Thanks for that update. I just remember we didn't bother with it when the wizard wore it last. At least not that I recall off hand...

It's important to the OP's question in that a Ring of Sustenance is not as great of an item unless it is house ruled to allow regaining of spells after 2 hours. With such a house rule, the 8 hour window of no new spells drops to 2 hours and for encounter purposes, that's a big drop (hence, giving the ring a high utility for the cheap cost).

As written, the Ring gives the Wizard the benefit of being awake more often, but at the cost of requiring even more rest if a combat occurs. With the house rule, this would not be an issue.

Indeed.

I mean why else would a wizard waste a headband slot on something if it just increased the DCs only. It's an enhancement effect, I'll grant you but unlike the spells, it's more "permanent" and therefore increases Int a great deal.

For my money, one of the best bang-for-the-buck magic items for ANY PC is the Quiver of Ehlonna- it turns any PC into a weapons platform, and its dirt cheap.

For spellcasters, realize that the main compartment can carry things like staves, spears or bows...the small compartment carries arrows, bolts, or wands. The midsize portion can carry rods or scrolls and the like.

And you automatically get whatever you're reaching for? What's not to like?

Let's face it ... aren't we all?

So if you know of good posts already out there, please post me the links, or post your ideas here....
Although you don't appear to be a fan of prestige class & feat combos, you still might want to consider playing a Wild Mage with the Practiced Spellcaster feat.

Optimized Magic Items

Let's start with items for middle level power wizards (level 9).....
Scrolls and/or wands of enervation are fairly useful ... assuming you have a decent Dex and are not facing constructs or undead.

Spell enhancer scrolls and/or wands also rock.
