Optimized mage combos

Spells:
If Spellcompenduim is allowed

Benign Transposition Level 1
Balefull Transposition Level 2
Ebon Eyes + Darkness

are spells you should take a look at .
They saved our Party often in the last sessions.

if you have Craft Wand:

Make Shield, see Invisibility and Mage Armor.
Cheap to make and important to have since you dont need to Memorize them frees spell slots.
Make a Wand of Scorching Ray great for Attak no Save Second Level.

I am looking for ways to make my wizard more effective.... I have been browsing the web for the best spells, best items, combos etc... What I found is that there are a lot of posts on PrCs on certain particular spells, some on combos, but NONE on magical items optimized for wizards.

What magical items are cost and power effective to make? Which scrolls should a wizard have... Basically a more holistic approach to character optimization.... no just feats, skills, PrCs mainly items with once per day spells (to have more spells available than the normal spell slots allow)

So if you know of good posts already out there, please post me the links, or post your ideas here.... Let's start with items for middle level power wizards (level 9).....

The most important item to make, if you don't already have it, is a Headband of Intellect. It will boost the save DCs of your spells and at 9th level you're reaching the point where it could make the difference between having an extra spell of your highest level slot or not. (And that's huge.)

I have to agree with Wolfy here. If you don't have a headband of intellect or even something that boosts your Int to significantly increase the spells/per day and DC of your spells, you're wasting time trying to craft other things. Spells are main thing and for me, buying scrolls or even just scribing them is way cheaper than worrying about what spells should be scribed for you. Get a headband, get a ring of wizardry, that's pretty much my two cents.

If you're trying to be a module-buster, you can't go wrong with a ring of Sustenance. No need for food or drink AND resting 2 hrs is equivalent to resting for 8... which means you can memorize your spells all over again at least once per session ;)

Hero,

Damn I forgot about a ring of sustenance! Thanks for that insight. Yeah I kept thinking of rings but only ring of wizardry kept popping in my head. Thanks for thinking for me. ;)

7. A mithral buckler. This one often gets overlooked by many wizards. A mithral buckler has no armor check penalty or arcane spell failure penalty. A wizard can use one pretty freely, and it can be enchanted for a bigger AC bonus. The penalties for not being proficient with it are negligible for a wizard as well. And it stacks with Bracers of Armor/Mage Armor too.
A mithral twilight chain shirt works well, too. Granted it costs more, but also has more potential for higher bonuses than a buckler. And it stacks, too!

I don't think this is true - although you only need 2 hrs sleep a night, you still have to have the full 8 hours rest in case to avoid seriously challenging the clerics supremacy, just like elves have to have 8 hours even though they only need 4 hours sleep.

What?

Plane Sailing is correct. The relevant rule is:

If the character does not need to sleep for some reason, she still must have 8 hours of restful calm before preparing any spells.

The 3.5 FAQ also states this (not that the FAQ is a good source for clarification, it just happens to be correct in this case).

Mister Karin's Dad,

Thanks for that update. I just remember we didn't bother with it when the wizard wore it last. At least not that I recall off hand...
