Optional Core Class: Hunter w/Epic Progression

First of all great idea

2nd How bout beastman/beastwoman

3rd if any disses bats again i will find you, since when are bats not serious predators I'll have you know their succes per hunt rate is at least 12% higher than any of the other lone hunters

4th instead of a gaze attack give them bonuses to sense motive and intimidate , just put the ki shout feats on their bonus feat list

5th if the class is about unlocking the animal within the character maybe the exp penalty should apply to only to core classes that are not normally on the races favored class list. example A gnome "beast woman" with a high int score could be reintroduced to gnomish society , just because she's a magical beast or animal doesn't mean that she wont share the gnomes inclination towards arcane illusions.

Bats do not sound like seriously threatening predators to me, they hunt bugs usually and some feed on fruit, they're not that threatening to much of anything other than insects from what I can recall.

They don't automatically get the unnerving gaze, it's an ability they can choose. A bonus to sense motive and intimidate doesn't really make sense, intimidate is not seriously that great, I wanted something that would terrify. Stare a dragon in the eye, they don't have to use intimidate. Ki shout feats? Why?

Just for note, there are no gnomes in the world this is going in to, thank the great evil of the world for that relief. I did this instead of restricting their multiclass abilities like a monk or paladin, it makes more sense. Also, for a character that grew up in a different setting I can easily see the favored class changing instead of being entirely based upon the race. I see the favored race more as a society based implication more than a natural connection in most instances.

Oh, about the name... Beastman? I'm almost just thinking Feral as the name, it is inclusive to all genders without having to change it.

ok feral is cool

and bats also eat fish , amphibians , other bats , and other small mammals. Much the same diet as a Wolf

the ki shout feats could be a roar for these Ferals almost all predators have distinctive sounds that let everybody know whos boss

Ok I like it overall. But you a making it normal. Throw in some new stuff. Say... a reptile of some sort. Also if you use a reptile make a gaze attack that hypnotizes them. Also the ablity to talk to animals of the their type. Mabye latter the ablites.

skade like ferrix name. ferrix good. rarr.
:D

The natural attack progression seems a little steep. This is only for their natural attacks though, no weapons of any sort? what would the damage range on that be?

Its a fantasy game, and there are at least some tales of cobras hypnotizing people. It always happens in the cartoons...

BTW, my list of animals/abilities was simply a list of which animal had the abilities in the MM. I made no assertions as to their predatory nature.

skade-boy out

Erm... humans are mammals, i'm all for that. I don't know how I would classify their animal type (feline/lupin/ursa) maybe by the feats they choose, but I'm thinking you could work out PrC's with specific animal abilities or something like that. I'm more for keeping the class open I think so maybe give them an ability to communicate with animals in general?

What's wrong with keeping it "normal"? Maybe venom ability, hypnotize (gaze attack thingy), bite would just be considered one of their natural attacks, I don't think I'd want to give them constrict, it seems too out there. Maybe a "hug" like ability, sort of constrict but uh yeah. I'll brainstorm more.

About their natural attacks, I'm thinking of doing it this way since they can get more with abilities.

at 1st they get the two attacks

at 5th they get another

at 10th they get their final natural attack

so 4 natural attacks total, but can get more with rake and get other abilities.

I list the damage their natural attacks do as they level up.

if they only get 4 attacks
even with the others you can get with their feats
the damage should be higher than the monks partly because these guys focus on mainstream combat more and because the monk will still have more attacks
