Orcus - which portfolios and domains?

I mean if that were the case they'd be FAR more constistent with him than have been. I site FR Orcus versus 3.5 Orcus versus BoVD.
FR, with its own cosmology?

I think it'd be hard to say with confidence that he's necessarily the same Orcus at all.

Well, don't forget that Death and Undeath are two different things. If he's got the Undeath domain, I don't see why he needs Death. In fact, I don't think it fits his profile very well anyway.

Depends, he could be going with the Roman/Etruscan grim reaper death god version.

When making my deities, I've always given them just 3 or 4 domains: Alignement + 2. Any more than that, they have to take the Extra Domain salient divine ability, and Extra Domain has divine rank 5 as a prerequisite.

Chaos and Evil are of course mandatory; reflecting his alignment. Going strictly by the PHB, I'd also give him Trickery and Death.

If you're using BoVD, the Demon domain is an obvious choice. He is a demon, after all. Loose trickery.

FRCS had the Undeath domain, which -for Orcus- is a suitable replacement for Death, IMHO.

To sum up; if Orcus was a deity in MY campaign, he'd have Chaos, Demon, Evil & Undeath. If he had more than five divine ranks, he might also have Trickery.

Just my 2 cents, of course.

Why destruction? I see trickery from what I've heard about his machinations in the planescape modules, undeath is his thing, and chaos and evil fall into the demonic aspects, but I'm not sure why destruction would be a particular domain of the obese goat.

Reading his entry in Book of Vile Darkness, Orcus is a very destructive individual so I figured he would also have the Destruction domain.

IIRC, Orcus is a god in the Ghostwalk setting...

:walks upstairs to grap the book:

...yup, page 85 of Ghostwalk. Listed domains are Chaos, Death, Evil & Undeath. Portfolio is necromancy, torture, pain & undeath.

*chuckle* Same cosmology and same orcus till FR fell into bizzarro world a few years ago

Own cosmology... my fiendish little left foot with its evil yet dainty claws.

Of course I play 3e Planescape, so I'm obviously biased in my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

At least in Ghostwalk.

Shem's right, up until 3.0, Orcus was Orcus no matter which D&D setting he was in. *thinks Shem's bias is valid.*
