Well it is the Great Equalizer for Bows. Since at high levels its not unlikely to have +14 damage just from enchantment on the weapon it really needs some downside. Otherwise you'd just have a bunch of archers running around with +5 Mighty (+4) Composite Longbows shooting +5 arrows. Very nasty if not regulated![]()
Don't want to return to the too sunder or not debate. But I've seen it happen way too many times and get the implication way too often that sunder gets used almost as a punishment for bow users and is magically only used vs them and magically only gets used when the opponent has a high enough +weapon to overcome the PCs magic bow. Chances are by the time a Pc has this prestige class his bow is fairly magical, and its probably not that difficult to see.
Now then unless I really think that's my only way to survive this encounter would I; A think hmm lets destroy many thousands of gp worth of an item in one blow, and B gamble that my magic whoozit is powerful enough to sunder the magic in his fancy bow.
Dms should really only sunder bows if they sunder axes etc. and also less frequently sunder swords, and semi-frequently make sunder attempts even when they know full well that it will bounce right off the weapon because the sundering weapon just isn't a high enough + to do it.
