Orgins: It has started

Crothian

First Post
First day of Origins and not a lot of cool things to report. WE went down to pick up outr Badges and walk around. Fate meant for us to play a game though. We were just looking around to see where the games next morning are and in the room we happened to see some people we knew from last years Origins and we sat down with them to play some western style buffy. That onloy lasted about three hours and of course kept me from meeting up with some people I was hoping to run into but we have the rest of the con for that.

Tommorrow is Thieves World and Tekumel for games, lots of fun in the Dealer room, and early home for Hellhound and Denise to stop by. :D

With work and all we didn't manage to get up there until around 8pm. After and easy time picking up our badges, spent 20 minutes in line to clear up a pre-reg event issue. Then two and a half hours to take care of last minute registration.

Met a person in a PBeM I played in that I had not met before and that was pretty cool. Later we headed out to Barley's for some refreshment. Tomorrow the gaming starts for me. Can't wait!!

If you go into flickr and search for Origins it will take you to my photos from the con. I jumped into a demo of Nin Gonost already. Silven Crossroads will have more of my pics from the con up soon also ...

Day Two

I tend to not see anyone I know at cons and so far this has mostly ran true. I've not seen anying by a shock from EN World and we didn;'t have time to talk much.

The day staerted with my 8am Thieves World game. I'm in love., The group was a bit subdued, I imagine from the early tiome slot but it was ran dark and gritty and Rob did a great job of captureing the essence of Sanctuary. It was not a game for the feint of heart and I seriously thought one of the guys was going to just leave the table and walk away as he was not reacting well to the Street of Smells and other not so good areas. I was the only person to survive the game and with the magical treasure. It was freaking great!! I got to scan the TW book and I'll prbably buy two. :D

After that it was lunch at the North Market with a friend and intom the famed dealers room. It seems there are not as many companies there this year. Still lots to see and while I saw a lot I have some demos I really have to try.

I visited some with the IPR people and they have many games I'd love to see demoed like Sorcerer and Capes. Both games I have but I want to see them done by someone who knows what they are doing and not like myself who struggle with some of them. It was great talking to them.

The Whitewolf booth as always was loads of a fun. I have some freinds that worked it and we got to talk Exalted a lot. The Exalted comic boom #0 looks great and I'm looking forward to seeing the run it ghes.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of new RPGs that I haven't seen. The Treasure and monster book for Castles and Crusades looks good, but I was unhappy that Eden didn't have City of Heros or Buffy revised yet. I hunted the used book places for a copy of storyteller Adventure but it seems to be nowhere found at this con much to my disappointment. I did pick up some good deals like MM3 half offf, 6 avalance books greatley discounted (I know many people never liked their books but I'm a fan), and Nyambe and Love and War by Atlas. Here I am talking about all these non d20 games and then my buying list was all d20. Odd I know.

Hound and Denise are excxpected to arrive in shortly so we didn't stay too late at the con. Tommorrow though will be a long day and night. There's a family situation I'm going through also this weekend that is really making it hard to have fun and I may be cutting out at any time this weekend with little notice. Its going to be tough.

But to end on a good note, I have a secret project I'm doing at the Convention. And if anyone I taklked to reads this please don't mention it it is a suprise. I'll continue it this weekend and also at Gen Con where many others will hopefully be able to help out with it. :D

So far, great freaking convention.

Hey... if you think of it... can you get some pictures of the D&D Minis on display at Origins? I'm dying to see what the new set looks like. :)

Thanks,

Anyone who gives a report on AEG's stuff will be much appreciated. I'll name a monster after you in my next game and guarantee you up to 7 PC deaths, depending on the greatness of the report and your preferences.

anything specific you want to hear about with AEG??

Just to add to the Origins tales... I only made it there in the late afternoon due to work. Did a whirlwind tour of the dealer room just before they shut it down for the evening. I agree with Crothian, it seemed there were less folks this year. Not sure if that's really the case or not, but it did feel that way. And the WotC booth was tiny.

The big event tonight for me was Play with the Creator, in this case Monte Cook. It was my first time playing Arcana Evolved and I went into the game trying to avoid the spellcaster since I had heard magic was pretty different. So what was I? A spellcaster!! It was lots of fun and it wasn't too hard to pick up on. We all survived and a good time was had by all. To top the evening off I won Ruins of Intrigue to a high d20 roll of 16! Again, it was a great time to play in a game run my Monte.

Tomorrow is the big day. Try to get up there before the Red, White and Boom rush and lots of gaming tomorrow. Should be great!
