A bit surprising. Camaroon defeats Saudi Arabia only 1-0. And a late score at that. After the collapse against Germany I expected the Saudi's to get crushed here but they put up a brave fight. This puts Camaroon in a bit of a tough spot, facing Germany while Ireland faces Saudi Arabia.

But Ireland has to beat KSA by two goals to feel secure, right? (I'm not sure what the tie breaker is after goal differential and head-to-head). There is some pressure there and the games are at the same time on the same day, so the players won't know what is going on with the other game. But they can probably expect Cameroon to lose to Germany.

Help a poor American here... If I read things correctly, then France has to beat Denmark by 2 goals in order to qualify AHEAD of Denmark. Correct? Otherwise, Senegal has to lose for France to have a chance. Correct?

Rules in a tie are:
1. goal difference
2. number of goals scored
3. direct result
4. goal difference in direct result
5. number of goals in direct result
6. Lucky draw

I guess 4/5 is only if more than one team is equal after 3. Lucky draw means a lottery.

If France beat Denmark with one goal, they'd both have a tie in their goal difference, but Denmark would have scored more goals.

So yes, France must beat them with at least two goals more. Even if Senegall lost high to Uruguay, then Uruguay could still advance in stead of France.

And I wouldn't rule out Cameroun beating Germany, either. It's a bit sorry, but our players aren't the kind that run their a$$es off. So if Cameroun fights, they have a chance. They are technically more adept, and also faster, I think.

france ties uruguay scoreless!

Truly awful performance by France. They've YET to score a goal. Denmark is the toughest team in their league. It won't be easy beating them.

The draw with Senegal was initially disapointing - but the stunning heat and horrible referee (who sometimes missed giving Senegal two red cards inside the first 20 minutes and disallowed a perfectly valid goal that would have taken us to 2-0!!!) made the draw a satisfactory result - considering the circumstances. With the draw between France and Uruguay I can see us going through even if Zidane gets back. I'm quite happy to be rid of Henry even though France have capable replacements. It'll be a tense, back-to-back fight - a drama of the highest calibre on the final day though.....

My plea to FIFA is: STOP USING REFEREES FROM MICRO-FOOTBALL NATIONS - PLEEEEEAASE.

Last time around the horrible Juan Toro Rendon ruined the match between Denmark and South Africa with three ridiculous red cards. The red cards back then were given to our striker as he did his best NOT to hurt a South African and the other because he accidentally drew the wrong card out of his pocket!!! Get such clowns of the pitch or start using video evidence. Jesus.....

Well, after telling people I was pulling for Portugal because they play "attractive football" I've been eating a lot of crow lately. But being wrong never stopped a fan from making brash predictions!

Germany won't advance. Ireland still has the "easy" game left in the group against an opponent that has already been knocked out and Germany looked terrible (except for Kahn and Klose) in the second half vs. Ireland. You play that way up 5-0, not 1-0. Plus, I cannot accept that any team that starts Janker deserves to win (where's Martin Max??!!). The guy should be on the German diving T#team, not the football team. Any of use would need a asledgehammer to knock him down if he didn`t want to fall.

France needs a lot of help and I don't think Denmark will be in the giving mood. 0 goals in 2 games is not a good sign. Zidane's comeback will be too little too late.

Which leaves a fairly open field, but I'll hedge my bet and pick Argentina v. Italy, which would be a great game given the players and tactics of both teams.

All I know is that football just isn't as fun without a guy yelling "goooooaaaaaallll!!!! goligoligoligoligoli goooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal!" for five minutes non-stop. That guy was great. I think that was an announcer in '94? Is he there this time?
