OT: Angel (spoilers)

Its funny to think of how far his character has come since his first appearance on Buffy.

Y'know, that was my exact same thought as I watched him grab Lilah by the throat. What a difference 3 years makes, huh?

Actually, my favorite line of the episode was:

Lilah: "...I don't want you thinking about me when I'm gone."
Wes:"Actually, I wasn't thinking about you while you were here."
:D

As for "Saint Cordelia," I still have to ask myself what the ????? is going on there, and why that plotline came out of the blue like it did. The rest of the episode didn't bother me; the divine ascension, and all the things leading up to it, did. Does anyone else think that the Powers That Be are trying in a ham-fisted way to remove Cordelia from the picture, so that something nasty can happen? (...and did happen?)

It's called "a desparate grasping of straws by Joss because he want's Angel to sit on the bottom of the ocean and he couldn't think of a better way to keep the others from helping him and Cordy was supposed to meet up with them and she would see Angel and Conner fighting and she would turn all glowy and Conner would cry again and see through the deception that Christine has been throwing at him and this whole relationship between Cordy and Angel had to be resolved at some point and he didn't want to actually have them tell each other how they felt because what would they do then and the season was so close to ending that he ran out of time". So, I look forward to next season, 'cause I can't wait to hear the lame excuse for her so-called ascension.

I agree that the whole "Cordelia Ascendant" angle was pretty lame. But I have high hopes that they can salvage it next year.

How, you ask? Simple. Make it fake. Have Skip either not really have been Skip, or have him always have secretly been an agent of evil. Let Wolfram and Hart, or some other evil force, be the true instigators behind this so-called "ascension," which was actually a way of removing Angel's greatest ally.

That might--might--salvage the "higher being" plotline. I can't think of much else that would.

And Cordy's one of my favorite characters, too. :(

There's a simple way to salvage the "higher being" plotline....

Cordelia asked Skip if it was a test. He didn't answer directly. Assume Cordy's right - it's a test, but not the test she thinks it is.

The test is - "are you willing to give up your friends to fight the fight The Powers that Be need you to fight?" If you have faith that the Powers know what they are doing, you may keep what you have. If you don't accept, the powers are taken back.

So, all they have to do is take her up.. and drop her back down and say "We just wanted to make sure. Go do what needs doing." Simple, elegant, and in character for TPTB.

Or...she made the wrong choice in choosing duty over love. :) I honestly don't know but it couldn't have been THAT simple as "Beam me up TPTB!"

Hmmm, is it just me or have they yet again completely forgotten that Apocalypse was on the way. It seems every season they try to build towards some sort of big bruhaha with some un-named end of the world, and as they draw up to it either the characters forget all about it, or the writers throw a twist and forget all about.

Sometimes it feels like a poorly run D&D game where the characters don't really want to have anything to do with the DM's plotlines and he has to scramble to find something else.

A few quotes heard around the living room concerning this...

"I want to go to Tibet" a whiny Angel impersonation

"But I don't have any maps or adventures for Tibet! Besides you've got the end of the world coming!" Our Joss voice

"But you killed my characters ex-gf, so now he wants to go to Tibet!"

"Fine, I'll just write you out for an episode..."

Heh...

Aside from that, I really feel they dropped the ball with this plotline. Connor's revenge could have been drawn out much longer... hmmm, but then that would presuppose he has the capacity for drawn out revenge... hmmm, maybe they handled it the best that they could... bah still feels very, ohh, faux...

Although if Cordy gets a vision whilst on the other side concerning Angel's fate and decides to discountinue her Jedi-err Power of Light Training to return to save him, I'll be forced to hunt down one Joss Whedon and one David Greenwalt and kneecap them...

On coming apocalypse - actually, if said apocalypse involves Connor, they've brought it closer, rather than put it on the back burner.

Remember - Sajan (the time-jumping demon) set things up because Connor was supposed to kill him. One expects things like that have to happen before or concurrently with apocalypse. So, we needed Connor to grow up.

Drawn out Connor's revenge? Whatever in this world makes you think Connor's revenge is done? Seeing as we know that Angel isn't done with, that implies that Connor's revenge isn't done, either. We know this first attempt fails...
