[OT] Ashes series

I've said it once and I'll say it again:

It's the non-contact sports you need to watch out for.

Just saw that on a news update. Ouch.

So what do we all think of England's chances anyway? Obviously, unless Australia collapse in a heap tomorrow, this one is pretty much in the bag, but what of the rest of the series?

I wonder if Morrus likes cricket :)

Good morning. Although I am English, I don't follow cricket much. However, I'm sure my Dad is going to be quite annoyed at what is so far happening...

Why do we even bother to send teams down there? And why bother sending half fit players anyway? *sigh*

5-0 the Aussies, I reckon. Mate. :D

Alright, help us out.

How does one play cricket? I've already figured out the answer is "badly" if you're a Brit, so don't go there! :D

Um...it's kind of like baseball.

Cricket is a team sport for two teams of eleven players each. A formal game of cricket can last anything from an afternoon to several days.

Although the game play and rules are very different, the basic concept of cricket is similar to that of baseball. Teams bat in successive innings and attempt to score runs, while the opposing team fields and attempts to bring an end to the batting team's innings. After each team has batted an equal number of innings (either one or two, depending on conditions chosen before the game), the team with the most runs wins

Check this site for more details.

This might be of interest to those from the U.S. who are interested. It actually suprised me when I found it.

I'm an ousider looking in on Cricket, but I'll say this.

It must be hard being and English Cricket fan during the Ashes Series. It gets loads of press It lasts a whole month. 5 test matches. Each match lasts several days (I don't know much abotu Cricket, but the game lasts a long time). And from what I've seen in recent years, every minute of it is pretty painful. Several days of defeat, then, a week later, they go through it again, and again. And the Aussies don't hold anything back, they go for the 5 match sweep.

LOL. So except for batting, hitting, fielding, getting players out, scoring runs, substitutions and batting order, it's just like baseball! :D

Ok, so it has a conceptual similarity to baseball. Thanks for the links.
