[OT] D&D in Futurama!

I was just watching through Futurama season 2, and what do you know, D&D monsters made a few appearances!

In Episode 5 "I second that emotion" there's a Rust Monster in the pet hospital. Is the robot that owns it a bit rusty?

In Episode 14 "How Hermes requisitioned his groove back" there is a Beholder working as a grade 11 bureaucrat in the central bureaucracy. He even uses his eyestalk rays, but quite ineffectively. Makes sense though that he's be a bureaucrat, since they're lawful evil!

I was G Gygax and Al Gore. Mr Gygax was going to let Fry borrow his Mace+1 I believe.


Also D&D has made an appereance in The Simpsons.

When Homer is going to college and is stuck in the nerds frat he spends all his time with them. Marge asked him what he is up and he said you know, surfing the net playing D&D stuf like that. She said I don't want you hanging out with those geeks.

Or something like that.

Yeah, Gygax was in Anthology of Interest I (the one with the short stories). Not only did he lone Fry his +1 Mace to fight off drunken futuristic robots, he also rolled dice to determine how he felt about meeting Fry.

"Hello Fry, I'm.. " rolls dice and looks at them "pleased to meet you."

That was a great episode.

Then, after fry breaks the cryogenic chamber he was frozen in, thus destroying the entire space-time continuum, they decide to spend the rest of eternity playing DnD. It leaves off with Al Gore's, "I'm a level 11 Vice-President."

Hey, are Futurama episodes out on DVD yet, or did you just tape those episodes? I sure would like to be able to run out to Best Buy and pick that up today...

Not yet, at least as far as Amazon.com knows. And seeing as they're only up to the second season of The Simpsons on DVD, it'll probably take another year or two.

There ARE official Futurama VCDs out there, but seeing as VCDs are extremely rare over here, I doubt you could get any except on eBay.
