[OT] Do you believe in ghosts?

yes, and yes.

I didn't want to believe for a long time, but I have had too many experiences to deny it.

I see my deceased cat all the time. He lived here with me for 15 years before I had to have him put down 3 years ago. Ever since then I can feel him around, and feel him lying on my feet at night and I see him come around corners a lot and then disappear, or sit in the places he used to sit and just watch me.

My sister can hear and feel our old dog come into her room when there's thunderstorms and lay down next to her bed (like she did when she was alive) but the dog's been gone for 5 years now.

ANd of course there's the poltergeist who lives in our house, things disappear only to reappear in plain sight, I have seen objects float across the room, and have been shoved down the stairs on occation.

I see spirits a lot. I am just not sure if everything I see and feel are just spiritual energy, or souls of deceased people (animals).

No, I am not crazy:rolleyes: I'm special,
Lady Starhawk

Sounds like the so-called "sleep paralysis". It's a normal psychological occurrence, though it can be frightening. It used to happen to me quite often.

There is, I believe, during your normal sleep pattern, a period of time when you are in fact paralysed. If I remember right, sleep paralysis basically is what happens if you wake up during this period of your sleep cycle. It has nothing to do with the supernatural and actually happens to everyone whether they know it or not.

Ghost shmost. I have been to several places that were suppost to be haunted, and challenged the ghosts. Not one has taken me on my challenge. I remember one night my wife and i were staying at this old bed and breakfast and she wondered if it was haunted. I called the ghosts all kinds of insulting names and she freaked out and we almost had to go to a different hotel right then and there.

The only spirits I have ancountered are those you drink.

has anyone seen the movie "Mr Death" its a documentary on the life of teh man that build death machines (electric chair, gas chamber, lethal injection...

Anyhoo- there is one scene that he describes when he was contratced to redesign the electric chair. He took photos of the chair so that he could se how to reassemble it later- and then sent it off to get developed. during that time, he took apart the chair to make a newer model.

when the photis came back- he saw images of people sitting on the chair (and he shows the actual photos in the movie) One pic has a spirit looking entity pressed against the back of he chair. another had a hand (fully visible and no question it was a hand) resting on the armrest as if someone was sitting in the chair. Another phot had a head like orb strapped to the headpiece of the chair.

he thinks that these were the people thatd ies in the chair and ofr some reason or another could nto rest (maybe wrongly executed) and so their sirit haunts the chair. But when he dismantled teh chair, their spirits were released...

very spooky

DrMidnight- this is for you:

a story about my mom. she was sent to the hospital once for and they hooked her up to the IV and let her sleep for the night. She woke up in the middle of the night to see a hugeman stanging beside her bed. He collapsed onto her and she could ot push him off. she screamed, but nothing came out of her mouth. She then fainted and woke up in themorning and demanded to be let out.

My story? One night (probably 4-5 years back now) I awoke from a very horrid, vivid nightmare at about 3am. I can't recall what it was about - just that it was terrifying. Anyway, when I awoke I was paralyzed, and could see the shape of a tall black man in the corner of my room.

This paralysis that some of you are talking about is called narcolepsy. I have it myself to a very small degree. There is nothing supernatural about it.

Evidently, when you become very scared, your body falls into its sleeping state. You have total paralasis and the only thing you can do is gasp for breath. The experience itself is very scary sinse your mind it completly awake. You are aware of everything and can't do anything about it.

Depending on how bad you have it, it may take a little shock or you may have to be absolutly terrified for it to happen. It really takes a lot for me and has never happened accept after really bad nightmares. For an example of someone with a bad case, watch Frasier. Niles has it. Also, if you have ever seen a stiff-legged goat, this is what they have. It is a deffect in their genes or something like that. when you make a sudden loud noise or chase them, they freeze up and fall over. Its hilarious!

Andrew -> I'm not sure what the man was. Possibly an hallucination brought on by sleep. I have done this as well. The strange thing is, my former boss described this exact same thing to me.

He has what can only be a phobia of vampires. He can't read anything about them or watch any kind of vampire movie or tv show. Occasionally he has nightmares about them and this triggers his narcolepsy. He said that more than once he has awoken to a black figure that seemed to stand there and watch him. Once the paralysis faded, the man disappeared.

Last time I talked to him, it was getting so bad he was beginning to believe that something supernatural (maybe a real vampire) was messing with him.

I'm not Dr. Midnight, but this sounds like a classic narcoleptic episode accompanied by an hallucination.

Its actually pretty common. Of course, I could be wrong. I'm not a doctor or anything.

No, I don't believe in ghosts, although I do admit that these stories scare me a little... Still, I've never seen any evidence of a ghost. Secondly, I have the same objection that I do to aliens and stuff. If they're real, it seems like sooner or later we'd stumble upon unambiguous, irrefutable proof that they exist. It seems like sooner or later one of them would have to break the "ghost code" or whatever, and appear in a large public place, and do things that more than one person can see.

Yes. My mom says she saw the ghost of a man in a raincoat standing at the foot of her bed once. She woke my father, but by then it had disappeared. While I trust my mother, I don't trust human perception, especially not in the middle of the night.

the problem with that is that sometimes only one person can see them- even in a larghe public area with a lot of people.

If you read my first post- i was driving my friends home, but I was the only person (out of 3) to see the ghost. They still dont believe that i saw anything- and say that I am just jokin with them.

edit:
As for aliens- it is true that they usually only appear in the most remote part of the world0- and the only people to see themis Joe Farmer and his pet cow.

But if you believe in evolution, then you have tobelieve that there is life outside of this planet because of the vastness of space and how the miracle of life was an accidental mixture of sugar water and an energy source. then you cannot accept that this acident only occured once in all of space and time- but can occr many times in many places.

Looking at the fact that solar systems are collapsing and forming on a regular basis, there are chances that these can house life- even in its most primitive form.

And the discovery of large planets in other solar systems prove that theer are planets outside of our own solar system, and with that, you can assume that one of them carries the right conditions for the formation of life...

Yes and yes.

I saw one when I was a child. While wide awake in bed, I rolled over to one side facing the door in my room and saw an apparition hovering beside my bed. It faded out at about waist level, but the upper half was distinct enough that I could tell it was looking at me carefully. It cocked its head to the side slightly, like a scientist studying some strange experiment before gradually drifting upward and dissapearing through the ceiling of my room.

Better then that is the ghost that haunted the house of one of my best friends. In our teenage years, we spent alot of time at each others houses (playing D&D mostly!) and so I had many opportunties to see some different manifestations of their ghost. It was the ghost of the man who had built the house they lived in. He suicided in one of the small rooms beside the garage. That is where his presence has always been felt the strongest.

I never saw this ghost personally, but every family member that lived there did. He really got mad whenever they changed HIS house. Re-roofing, adding rooms, all of this made the spirit mad and he made all sorts of noise up in the attic. He also stole small items from them. Watches, keys, hairbrushes, and other things dissapeared from normal spots to never be seen again, or to be found lying in the open again years later.

There was another instance with this ghost which I did witness. Like in some of the movies, you could feel when he was around even if you couldn't see him. Between the cold and the hairs standing up on my arms, we all knew when he was around. Once when just me and my friend were in the house, a small christmas teddy bear activated by itself. It was one of those that played music if you pressed one of the paws. John (my friend) and I were in another room noticing that we both felt the presence of his ghost when the bear in another room started playing all by itself!

The kicker is the physical likeness to the original house builder. They contacted the widow of the builder and described the being they had all seen and got a picture of him. It was an exact match...
