I don't, but I'd recommend checking out GameSpot's review of it, if you haven't already done so. I find their reviews helpful most of the time.

The link above takes you to their site, and their review is here.

Hope this helps.

If you like MMORPGs, this is the best of the breed.

I played it for quite some time early on, when they were still trying to get some of the bugs ironed out -- and it was already far beyond anything else available. (IMO, naturally)

The quests are very good -- for a MMORPG.

The crafting system is incredibly in-depth, and the consignment quests make crafting somewhat profitable over the VERY long-run, not counting the large amounts of money to be made off of your fellow players.

The character system is very nice, the world is impressive (I played in all three realms -- and to level 33 in the Camelot side.)

The game truly shines in the Inter-Realm combat, though. I was involved in some battles so massive that it bogged down my cable connection.

--------------------

Keep in mind that D&D (and work) takes up far too much of my time nowadays to keep playing Camelot, so I haven't touched it in a couple of months. Things may have changed somewhat, though I doubt it.

I prefer Anarchy Online...

I dunno, I just find DaoC... boring, I guess. It's fun for a time, but it doesn't hold me. EQ, AC, and AO have held me. I no longer play AO, though... I wish at times I did, but it was never any sort of roleplaying game...

I'm waiting for Star Wars: Galaxies. The screenshots look great, and the previews I've read sound promising thus far. And here's the clincher: Supposedly, there will be an expansion released after the first year that provides starfighter combat within the game. Sounds too cool to pass up.

By the way, anyone ever play Allegiancehttp://firingsquad.gamers.com/games/allegiance/? That game was WAY ahead of its time. Microsoft made a pretty kick ass Massive Multiplayer Online Space Combat Sim, yet it never quite caught on. Such a shame... it had amazing potential.

Been there...

I signed up for Camelot about a week after the launch, and was a fairly dedicated player up to a month or so ago. I can agree with some of the other comments, it's possibly the "best of the breed" for massive fantasy RPGs.

Having said that, I don't find it terribly exciting compared to D&D, or even a good single-player computer game. Quests are... ok... for a massive, but still consist of deliver-note-to-NPC-A-who-sends-you-to-NPC-B. Characters are fairly cardboard, and storyline is non-existant. Combat is better than most massives, and downtime is significantly reduced compared to EQ, AC and the rest. Your goal for the first 20 levels is to whomp on critters to get powerful enough to play Realm vs Realm.

This game is really _all_ about realm-to-realm warfare. All of the tweaks and changes to the game are really geared towards that goal, and the expectation is that you'll spend most of your game time doing RvR (or earning experience/loot to improve chances of RvR). If that's your type of game - go for it. If you want more in-depth gameplay (story, character development etc), EQ or AC are both far superior.

Me? I'm playing Dungeon Seige until Morrowind is released :)

I thought the craft syste, was seriously flawed....

I liked EQ more for astetic reasons and the grouping aspect of that.

In MMORPGS it's just a matter of taste. I liked Camelot becuase they didn't ask for my credit card number before giveing me my free month, unlike other games.....

Try it out I say.

DAoC

I play DAoC off and on. It can be alot of fun, but it got old, not enough land space to explore, unlike the rolling foreverness of AC, but it is a throughly and well thought out game well worth it's time and effort.

Hope that helps a bit.

One drawback is no overhead map, and you can not alt-tab out of the game to check e-mail or PM

Casual vs Hardcore Players

I am a pretty casual MORPG player (4-10 hrs per week maximum) and I have been pretty happy with DAoC.

I played EverQuest for nearly three years (and in that time managed to get one character up to 35th level) and found it fun, but frustrating (too much downtime and some classes cannot solo at all...).

If you think you are a casual player I would strongly recommend Dark Age. You should find it to be a lot of fun (less time spent healing and resting, and all classes can solo to some extent (this is important if you just have time to get online for an hour or so, and don't want to spend that time looking for a group and then logging off once you find one). If you think you might be a hardcore player (20+ hours per week), you will probably be better off with EQ. It does have quite a bit more depth to it.

I do have to agree with a number of previous posters though. MORPGs are not pen and pencil RPGs. The majority of your time in DAoC will be spent standing in once place and either fighting or healing. Roleplaying is pretty much non-existant.

If you're into Elite-type space sims I can sort of recommend Jumpgate, was fun for a while. Good part about that game is that you download the game for free, get to try it for a few days and only then you have to pay for it.

Then again, at least the european server was severely hampered by a group of cheating l33t skillz kids who exploited every possible bug and/or hack to grief kill other players... when I left I think they'd just been banned.

Apparently Netdevil is releasing a sequel to Jumpgate, should be interesting...
