[OT] Earth & Beyond

Thanks for the replies Tsyr and Furn. It pretty much what I was expecting and just furthers the "They canceled Wing Commander Online for THIS!" mentality I've had for the last year or two.

My hatred for EA knows no bounds.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Any word on when the game should hit stores?

The last I heard- late september or early october.

I would be really surprised if they are ready to go when that time period arrives.

Tons of bugs have been fixed, it's getting smoother and smoother all the time.

The graphics are far from dated.

That said, it does indeed seem like they've got a lot of work yet to do if they plan to go live in October, unless they plan on fixing a lot of the bugs after it goes live.

It's weird, in a way, that the current beta is considered a stress test when there are still so many bug issues.

Ah, well. I'm having a great time!

So what you're saying is it will be out in October. This is how MMOG's work after all.

I like Earth & Beyond quite a bit. There's something relaxing to traveling the stars at thousands of kph with soothing ambient music and a warm chat channel or two to keep you company.

For those complaining about camping and the like, you can go a long way without fighting much at all. If your favorite place is being "camped," go run a trade route or, if you're an explorer, go prospect for minerals and other items out in the far reaches of space. A prospecting run in deadly territory with a cloaked Jenquai Explorer can be every bit as tense as deadly combat--if not more so.

I like that the game isn't twitch-based and PvP. I'm not interested in others having fun at my expense. I want to go out there, explore the stars, make a few credits, and keep the trade lanes free of monsters and pirates. If a Terran Trader needs an escort, I'll join him with my Jenquai Defender and keep him company. We'll fly in formation and chat while we warp, trading experiences and advice. The warping occurs in auto-pilot, so you can really sit and talk, as opposed to other games of this type that make chatting while traveling difficult.

I find the game oddly relaxing and stress-relieving, and I love the aspect of piloting a ship in space and interacting with the pilots of other ships. The chat interface makes sense in a sci-fi world, so you can imagine an in-character market channel where people hawk their self-built wares or a Jenquai-only channel where members of that race trade secrets and commiserate about the members of other races.

It's the simple, subtle things that I'm not sure the designers intended that I find so great about E&B. I think the fun combat, huge galaxy, and character development are gravy.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Don't forget about the in-game Halloween festivities this coming Thursday!
