Okay, to give it an RPG twist....

This shows that it's possible to steal some of the crown jewels, and not have them show up when searched.

Have any people here had rogue characters who tried to steal expensive jewelry?

Do any DMs here price jewelry higher if there is some notoriety involved?

Are there any spells for locating jewelry, if it's in someone's stomach?
