What amazing and hearfelt congratulations...thank you to everyone!

(2) QB - Thanks much, my friend! We actually had 3 trips almost back-to-back...San Francisco, NYC and Aruba...I guess practice does make perfect (or at least babies):D!

(7) Darklone - We were still very suprised at how quickly it happened...just started trying at the end of January!

Gotta run...I will catch everyone else in a bit!

You are more than welcome of course!!
As for the rapid success in your endeavours to conceive, consider this little tale...
When my wife had discontinued nursing our older boy, she resumed taking birth control pills. She took those pills for better than four years, then early last May she took the last one as we prepared to work on getting pregnant. Just over a month later she informed me that we were expecting -- A MONTH!!! Why she even thought to check that soon using a HPT, I'll never understand. What I do understand, though, is that we're fertile. And therefore, every precaution must be taken to avoid any "accidents" before we decide whether or not to go for a third child :).

*edit*
As Josh notes below, we truly understand what a blessing it is to be able to conceive without diffilculty or complication. Hopefully, this good fortune will continue on our behalf should we decide to try for number three ;).

Yes, Old One, you're heartily welcome! That's really quite a blessing: we're had friends that have really struggled for years to get pregnant, and we know how frustrating that can be.

Not from first hand experience, of course. If I look at my wife funny and we're not careful we get pregnant, but we know how lucky (and unusual) we are in that regard.

Anybody who has struggled with trying to conceive has my sympathies.

But, like others here, it was not a problem at my house. One month! Now, don't get the idea that I wasn't thrilled that we had a baby on the way. But when my wife told me, my first reaction was, "Damn! I was looking forward to a few more months of 'trying'." That earned my a swift whack from the wife.

Oh well, there's always next time...

;)

Wow Babies are going to be popping out all over the place :)

Congragulations Old One.

:) Me and my wife tried very hard for the first one and for three years nothing. After that well... we tried not to get pregnant and to no avail :D

which means that after two birthdays in July we will have a 6 year old, a five year old, a three year old and a two year old.

Speaking of which, at what age do you think you can meaningfully introduce children to gaming? I have a 6 1/2 year old, but I think he's still a bit young to really "get it."

My two oldest, both boys, have had a lot of fun with the Pokemon Jr. Adventure game (I highly recomend it for RPing parents with tykes). I also bought the star wars introduction box and tried them out on it. They did alright about 6 months ago on the first scenario. A think they will be ready soon for more.

We homeschool and the boys can count to 150 and we are working on simple math. I see the ability to add and subtract as more crucial than reading for most rping and think they will be ready math wise in about another 6 months. Reading, they are only on simple words (the oldest anyway) but they are both chomping at the bit already to read LotR and Harry Potter. (I must be doing something right).

Personally, I started DnD at the age of 9 and introduced my younger brother to it at the same time (then 8) we played just me and him for about 5 or 6 years with dice, without dice, with books and without books. (I became addicted to LotR at the age of 9 as well, reading it twice that year IIRC)

I think that 8 is the age I am aiming for my boys to really play but at the present rate I could see them ready by 7.

Dammit, Wicht! You're beating me again! And my oldest is a few monthes older than yours!

I can see we're going to have to get busy on number 4 real soon here now...

I think you're right about ages, there Wicht. I'm thinking somewhere after 1st grade, when my son can read a little more confidently (he can already read 1st-2nd grade books with no problem, especially if they're dinosaur related, but he doesn't think he can because he hasn't been "officially" taught to read - so he gives up on sounding a lot of stuff out) and gets some more confidence at doing the math, he'll be good to go as long as I DM and keep track of a lot of the book-keeping for him. At that rate, he'll be what: 7 or so? Going on 8? By 9 or 10 he can already be a full-fledged gamer, I'm thinking.

Re: Rel: I feel your pain, Rel. With our 3rd, we got pregnant after one time! How I wouldn't have loved one month for that one! ;)

Don't get me wrong, I really, really love my family but every time I read threads like these, I feel so envious of your (referring to those of you guys who share the hobby with your kids) kids ;) Anyway, I'll take you up on the turkey (don't like alcohol). Congrats, and do share with us again on your child's 1st birthday:)

More Thanks...

Continuing on in reply:

(1) Thorntangle - We are still trying to lock down exactly which trip it was on! I was laying awake last night thinking how soon it would be here!

(2) Rel - More than happy to help out! I was truly flattered when you asked permission to use it and I am very impressed with the results. Thanks for your "well wishes" as I approach fatherhood...I feel growing anticipation daily even though it has been less than a week since we found out!

I think that fatherhood will give a whole new perspective to my creative endeavours and writing...looking forward to it!

Can't believe I missed this!

Congratulations Phil! What fantastic news!

Speaking as a "new dad" whose bundle of joy is just approaching her first birthday, I can tell you that there are some moments of real delight coming your way.

- and babies travel real well, if you still plan to come over to London :)

Cheers
