This was certainly NOT the game I was expecting. I have to say I'm very dissappointed with the Avs' effort and Roy's too, though I will say it's not ALL his fault. That said, Good luck to the Wings, i DO think if they can get more of this kind of scoring going, they'll be set.

Sorry I have been away for so long - I have been wallowing in depression since the Leafs fell to the 'Canes. :( :( :(

But I have to say I was shocked that Roy fell apart so badly tonight. It is very out of character for him to choke (although admittedly it was a freaking shooting gallery in the Avs end!). I was expecting a classic goalie duel *sigh*.

BTW Wings in 5.

I can hardly believe what took place this evening. It was not all the game I (or anyone else for that matter) expected. A lopsided conclusion to a very closely contested series.

Wings in five over the 'Canes...GO WINGS!!!

One last note:
Hejdun -- I'm not sure what the Wings' fans did at the end of tonight's game (I wasn't watching the latter portions), but Colorado fans have been FAR WORSE for this entire series. Most of the chants at the Pepsi Center focused around how Hasek and the Wings suck, while fans at the JLA primarily cheer for our team as opposed to heckling the opposition. I'm sure Roy and the Avs heard plenty of taunts tonight, but puh-leeeze don't tell me things would have been different if Colorado won the series on home ice two nights ago!!
Sour grapes are very unappealing, and they ruin your otherwise noble post. Colorado is a great team, and I feel fortunate to have witnessed their hard work, unbelievable skill, and determination. If we'd lost, I'd feel the same way...albeit while mourning the elimination of my home team.

C'mon! The fans didn't do anything rude! They were chanting "pat-rick, pat-rick" during the first period and "Bring back Roy!" after the second string guy (what was his name again?) made a few saves.

Sure, it's annoying, but hardly something to get that upset over.

I'm actually pretty disappointed: I was at a David Lee Roth/Sammy Hagar concert, and Sammy came out and wore a Wings jersey the whole night (hey, he is the Red Rocker, after all) and announced the 7-0 score. Let me tell you, that was a party atmosphere at that concert! And then when they were playing clips from Girls Gone Wild during one of the songs...

Anyway, I salute Colorado. They played extremely well up until tonight, and I expected a tough fight and uncertain outcome, but the cumulative effect of a brutal playoff season just wore them down, I suppose. I'd guess that the mental exhaustion and discouragement after the first few goals were what really did them in, though.

Oh, and to whomever it was that said Detroit doesn't hit... which Detroit team are you watching?!?

GO WINGS!!!

Well, that certainly was dissappointing. Not just because Colorado lost (although that is a big part of it), but because it really wasn't much of a game. So much of a let down that I turned it off after the first period and watched the Farscape marathon.

Anyway, I was hoping and expecting something like 1-0, 2-1 or so, and when Roy let in several easy goals at the beginning (I think he should have stopped 3 of the first 4 goals), it really seemed to drain the remaining life out of the Avs. Detroit sure can put some pressure on when they need to, so all I can say for sure is that they deserved to win tonight.

I'm sure most of the Avs will be back, and by getting to the finals I don't see them letting many of the Wings leave, so here's hoping for a series like this (with Colorado winning next year :D) in the near future.

And, just to be difficult: Go 'Canes. :p

Josh:
I hope you had a good time at the concert, and I'll look forward to seeing you and all of the other NHL fans at our new playoff thread http://test.cyberstreet.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13953 :)

Purple:
I think everyone expected last night's game to be a tight battle instead of a blowout. Heck, even Yzerman was quoted in the newspapers as saying that he figured it would be a 1-0 final in regulation, or a low scoring game that went into OT. The Avs had a solid season, and I think you're correct in surmising that most of their team will return intact next year.
