[OT] If you though "lightning bolt!" was funny...

There are some very bitter people on these boards.

I'd say, rather, that there are some empathetic people on these boards, who remember just how badly it sucked to be a teenager.

I thought it was mildly amusing, but I couldn't stop thinking of the misery he's in for. He probably wishes he could transfer to a high school in Amish country, where no one even has electricity, let alone internet access.

I just wish I'd have kept a tape I found of my buddy and his brother shooting a home back in the 80's "video" of that song " Take on me" by A-ha.

Oh.

My.

Gawd.

Actually, I feel bad for the kid. He was just goofing around for his own amusment, and screwed up and left the tape in the camera. He wasn't trying to impress anyone, just have some fun and play 'pretend hero'. Kind of like gaming huh? Only, he wasn't even doing it in front of anyone.

How do we know he wasn't doing it in front of anyone? The webpage says something about a video cassette being left in the recorder, but for all we know, that line might be just part of the joke.

Besides, this guy's amateurish "make-believe" was professionally transformed by the Internet community, making him look like he is actually wielding a twin-bladed lightsaber-staff!

In a way, this guy has even become a minor celebrity. (Hey, it worked for John Candy and Chris Farley.) Don't be surprised to find "Darth Girth" at gaming and sci-fi conventions, wielding his twin-bladed lightsaber-staff... and getting paid for it.

Yeah, ha, ha. If I were a fat kid, who just got caught playing 'Jedi master' I'd think being called 'Darth Girth' was great. You guys are right, he'll just laugh it off. The fat ones are jolly like that.

I was manic depressive ten years ago, but now I think I would cherish this. All the memories of what a jerk / loser I was (and still am :-)

This type of thing doesn't happen to everyone.

Sorry, I laughed out loud while watching that. It was beautiful. It was me if I'd never taken martial arts -- and even WITH martial arts, I still look rather embarrassing floundering around and killing the imaginary bad guys.

As for the kid being utterly mortified and all that... I kind of doubt it. The dude who found the tape might have passed it around, but somehow, the fact that it's on the net makes it less personal to me. I don't know how many kids at a given high school would actually know how to find their goofy classmate. And the ones who did would most likely be the geeks themselves. How often do you hear the school jock say, "Dude, I downloaded you on my Windows Media Player, and you were a total geek!!!"

And when it all comes down to it... he was doing it in front of a camera that he looked at repeatedly during the filming. Heck, at one point it sounds like he trips over the tripod... This is not a cruel hidden camera prank. The kid's a doofus, but he's a doofus on his own terms. Give him some credit. :)

Kind of funny, but I agree with what was said earlier. Just a kid goofing around. I feel bad for him, actually.

Lighting bolt was much funnier, IMO.

I use to do this kind of stuff all the time and I am the same girth as he is. I just use to laugh at myself and along with others all the time in High School. But then again, I was the popular class clown and the RPG lord. I hope this gentleman is comfortable enough with himself to not be scarred for life.

I have to admit, the remix makes him look pretty nasty, I like it. If he was to put the same energy and do this type of work out for 30 minutes a day, he would lose his pudge in no time. Trust me, Air Martial Arts and Air Combat Attacks are great work outs :)

I heard that the movie was mentioned on TV, is this true? The kid is instantly famous now!

Lets be honest, who hasn't swung some simple object like a weapon, the difference is this kid was curious enough to see what he looked like doing it and stupid enough to leave the tape in the camera.
