some films I'd recommend
Ran - by Akira Kurasawa (my personal fav of all his films, including the seven samurai)
Rashomon (very intersting Kurasawa film, many consider it his best, I've only recently seen it)
Le Femme Nikita (1000x better than the american remake titled 'Point of no return')
The Killer - directed by John Woo, the movie described itself as having 10,000 bullets and BOY were they not kidding!
Hardboiled (another great John Woo film)
Return of the Living Dead (very funny movie!)
The Good, the Bad, and The Ugly (classic western cinema)
The Wild Bunch (Sam Peckinpah at his best)
Chinatown (great neo-noir film by Roman Polanski)
Blue Velvet - very quirky, very strange, and very good David Lynch film
Angel Heart another excellent neo-noir film
Spirited Away this last years Oscar winner for Best Animated film. It deserves all the praise it gets, outstanding movie!
Apocalypse Now and/or Apocalypse Now Redux one of the greatest war movies ever made. I'd say its probably Francis Ford Coppola's best film out of all the movies he's done.
Mean Streets an early example of why Martin Scorsesse is considered one of todays greatest directors.
Young Frakenstein and Blazing Saddles Mel Brooks two greatest films. Some people thing YF is the best, others say BS is the best, eitherway, both should be among the top 10 greatest comedies ever made.
Thats all I could think of for now...
