[OT] Insomniac conversation... come in and grab some coffee

7:30... and starting to crash. Hard. I'm so disappointed with myself, I thought I could make it until at least 10 or 11. Urrgh. I think I'm about to lurch to bed and admit defeat. Crap. I'm going to try to stay up, but... mblurrrrgh

Dr.? You still awake?

*pokes Dr. Midnight with a stick*

Oh well, it's 2 PM here (despite the board clock claiming otherwise) and I'm off to a lesson.

Doc, my best advice? Tonight, do some exercise (enough to get your heart hate up) this afternoon, and take either a long, hot shower, or a long bathtub soak (your preference) about an hour before bed. I find that this relaxes me enough for normal sleep if I'm getting restless at night.

A-ha! My kind of place! Insomniacs Inc.

For me, the greatest conversations have ALWAYS taken place late at night (more like early morning: 12am-6am), and usually in 24 hour diners.

But kitchen would probably rank #2 for me.

That goes for me too! All players in my DnD3E group live in the country while I live in town, but that's no problem since they come pick me up and drive me back home after the session. To me thats more than enough compensation for DM'ing! Anyways, the dreturn drive home, mostly late at night to me is also very rewarding. We get to chat about the session, what was good/not so good, ... . And what's also great: Bjorn who drives me home is kinda the pivotal character in the group. They've been through the Sunless Citadel and are now working up to the RttToEE, but I've worked out a back-plot that concerns this Paladin. And so I get to virtualy play one-on-one with him on the ride home, fleshing out the background plot.

BTW: I can relate to this thread also, because I'll be working for another firm come jan/1 (outsourcing, sigh) I've been taking all my outstanding off-time (I wouldn't want to have to drop time off because of the outsourcing) and currently am strugling to get my biorythm back into rythm. Twice inn the last 5 days I've tried to force myself back into a "normal" rythm by skipping sleep, but so far no dice. The problem is: the last 15 years I've been working in shifts with 3 out of 4 weeks being late (very late) or night shifts. (should you wander: I've been working as a mainframe computer operator) Come jan/1 I'll have to change to a regular day-time job, so after 15 years I hope I can get my internal clock back in sync.

Ya, almost 2am here and I'm not even tired. Luckily, I too, have nothing planed for tommorrow so staying up is no big deal. I'm working on some reviews trying to get caught up on those.

Crothian - how long did it take you to achieve that tremendously high number of posts?:p

Hello, all. I'm in the UK, and it's 11.35am...so I'm awake.

I agree with the sentiment about kitchens. One of the strangest but most interesting conversations I ever had was doing an opera version of a conversation at 2am, when quite drunk. It's quite simple, all you have to do is either:

Say the same thing three times, very loudly
Let the chorus repeat the last you said any time you pause
Stretch one word out for about an hour and a half

Try it. It works for Gilbert and Sullivan too.
