I have actually run Magnamund a few times as a D&D game... was pretty fun..
Anyways from what I know about Kai lords is that in Joe's own game they were Rangers with psionic powers... (A very rare combination in 1e).
I would make a Kai Lord Base Class and then PrCs for Master/Grandmaster sets.
Basic Ideas:
BAB/Saves/Hit Points As Monk
Skills Int+2
Skill List: Not sure.... monk? with a few others like heal knowledge (nature). (Don't have a book in front of me so no idea)
As each level 1-10 gain one Kai discipline
Weaponskill = Weapon Focus in one weapon.
Healing = Fast Healing 1/10 (as in 1 point 10 Minutes or 100 Combat rounds.... unless you think it should be faster). Paladin Lay on Hands.
Hunting = +3 to Hunting, Either a + to reflex saves or maybe Evasion/Uncanny Dodge
Camouflage = +3 to Hide, maybe to move silent as well?
Animal Kinship = +3 to handle animal, + to Ride, Ability to speak with semi-sentient animals, or guess intentions of others with a Handle Animal roll..
Tracking = easy.. track feat
Mind over matter = PP as a Psychic Warrior of 1/2 level. access to a low Telekinesis power (In 2e it was up to Kai level/2 pounds as the psionic power)
Sixth Sense = Detect Evil as Paladin, Alertness
Mindshield = Mental Defense Mode
Mindblast = Ego Whip, or a penalty to opponent's combat rolls if a Will save is failed.
After level 10 a Kai lord may advance to Kai Master if he is deemed worthy or talented enough. if not he gains 1 warrior feat every 2 levels.
Just some thoughts...
