[OT] Old Bloom County!! (big)

I appreciated the humorous social/political commentary of the strips. One of my faves was when they were out hunting for the liberal democrats:

"Gun Control! Gun Control!"

*BLAM*

"OW!! Socialized Medicine! Socialized Medecine!"

Also I recall some sort of orbital mind control ray, aka: The Meese Piece.

Classic.

Yes. One-of-a-kind. And the thirteen-letter word Ed Meese (in the comic, at least) said was responsible for all sorts of bad things: "Snugglebunnies." And the puppy dog alien who terrorized the Earth and shot folks with lasers and kidnapped stewardesses having charisma and therefore surviving Congressional hearings (aka Ollie North). Or, when Oliver learned about apartheid in South Africa, asking his father, "Does Jesse Jackson know about this?"

And, of course, the bizarre story arc to which the last led.

Doonesbury and The Boondocks do this well, but not this well (though since Aaron McGruder was inspired to strip, er, draw a comic strip, by Bloom County, he would likely agree). It's kinda sad that Breathed quit while he was ahead, but it's better that than something like the last 15 years of Peanuts.

In a lot of ways, it is like taveling back in time. I had completely forgotten about the MX missile - and all of the controversy it generated - or that the Soviet Union really was the evil empire and that Yuri Andropov was the devil.......

Other enjoyabel parts are Oliver, the computer hacker - ala Wargames style!!! nothing like a 2400 baud modem - and you were glad for it!!!!!!

Oh my god! I totally forgot Oliver. How could I forget Oliver? He was so cool :)

And Grandpa's war with Ruskie ducks. Heheh I loved those.

Lest we forget:

The Anixety Closet, Oliver the computer hacker (shall we dust Moscow today!), Steve Dallas, Mortimer Mouse and Rosebud the Basselope!

A classic was when they combined the DNA of Bill Gates and Bill the Cat and got Bill the Gates :D

A classic comic (along with Calvin & Hobbes) were the only ones worth reading!

I liked when aliens got ahold of Steve Dallas and " Gepharted" His brain, totally changing His personallality. I also love how Steve got back to his old personallity.

That was a clever idea, but "sensitive Steve" wasn't nearly as funny, and that phase lasted way too long.

My favorite run of BC? I liked when Opus was building a design proposal for a Star Wars project -- something along the lines of "keep sending me money; I'll sew the bills together into a giant net that will encircle the earth, protecting us from Soviet missiles. ;)

The Anixety Closet

I have the "Anxiety Prone" t-shirt... which is cool cause I actually have an anxiety disorder. I've had it for over 15 years and I won't get rid of it.

I actually posted to this thread last night, but AOL lost the connection. I had the Boingers record in my hands last night during some cleaning. I have all the books and most of the Opus Xmas ornaments. I even wrote Breathed when I was younger and mentioned that I liked to draw... he said that Milo would try to get me a job on the Bloom County Picayune (sp?).:D
Does anyone know when this BC movie will be released? I loved the Xmas special and I'd love to see something new.

BTW Emiricol, the Hairy Fishnuts strip is one of my absolute favorites. My Mom came up to visit a few weeks ago and some one mentioned Krishnas and I said "Oh, Hairy Fishnuts". My Mom looked at me like I was nuts.:D

LOL! I've done that!

I don't know when the movie is coming out, but a google might tell.

There was an x-mas special? I missed it :( My life is hollow, now :(

There was an x-mas special?

Yeah, it was an animated version of his Wish for Wings That Work HC children's book. It was hysterical. Luckily, I taped it when it aired. I have the book too...the cartoon is funnier.
