(OT) Pizza delivery questions

Question No. 1: Does Dominoe's where you live accept checks to pay for deliveries?

The chain next to my house, I am pretty sure does not take checks unless they know you well (order from there every other night and just have to pay by check this one time and asked on the phone when placing the order, etc.).

The chain next to my office does take checks if you have ID and are willing to have your life signed away on the check (i.e. your driver's lisc. number, your social security number, a drop of blood from your first born son, etc.).

Question No. 2: Do you tip the pizza delivery person?

Yes - tipping on delivery still fairly status quo in the Washingotn d.c. metro area. though, not as large a tip as though dine-in. (Someone once told me a percentage break down of "typical" but I don't recall it --- never used that anyway, for delivery it's usually "the change and an extra dollar or two depending on the size of the order and how close to reasonably "on time" it felt, any hassles, sexual favors offered, etc.)

(hmm - in case it needs to be said should some humor be lost in my bad jokes or a loss in translation for non-native english speakers, some of the above examples are said as a joke ;) )

As of Jan. 1, our Dominoe's no longer will take a check. WTF? They expect people to always have enough cash around to pay for pizza? Or they except us to run to the ATM before ordering? If I can go to the ATM, I'll just go to a drive-through and get better food.

Question No. 2: Do you tip the pizza delivery person?

Here in France, checks are widely used. When I arrived here, I was surprised, people use check even for 2€ payments... So yes, my Domino Pizza in Brest accept them, glady.

And yes, I try to tip. I usually try to give him/her one or two €, but if I cannot I do the check 1 or 2 € bigger. Not a big tip, but here in Franc etips are not as usual as in USA, I think.

1. Since we moved, Dominoes doesn't deliver to our area anymore. However, before we moved, they only took checks if the address printed on the check was the same address they were delivering to. The pizza place we order from now takes checks, no problem, which is good... because I hardly ever have cash.

2. I always tip the driver, and usually fairly well. $2 minimum... up to $5 if I'm feeling frisky.

Having cash actually in your pocket is becoming pretty rare among Americans, especially certain age groups. Many of us now like to use our "check cards" which works like a credit card but withdraws funds directly from your checking account.

I always tip. If you cannot afford the tip, you cannot afford the food. My rule for pizza is to tip $3, no matter what the size of the order. I do not feel there is any real relation to amount of the bill and amount of the tip, as with a restaurant.

Remember, you guys, tips are the bulk of these guys wages.

Depends. In Finland people don't tip. And $3 for a pizza which costs around 6-8 anyway sounds pretty high. Do you tip at McDonalds, BTW?

People at McDonalds don't go out of their way to serve you. I did however give a Christmas card to one of the guys at my local Burger King. He has always been friendly and goes beyond what I would expect at such a place.

It's cheQUE! :)

I've never heard of anyone using a cheque for pizza. I highly doubt if a pizza joint would accept it here. I can just see the look on the delivery persons face... sortof a, "Wtf? Am I on candid camera?" look :)

A friend of mine once used a credit card but that was for a big chain store here.

Tipping in Australia is pretty much a rich-person only thing done in restaurants. However it does seem common to leave the delivery person with the change if it's around a dollar. That's what I do and what most people I've known tend to do too. Better than having 'em stand there for a minute or two shuffling through their bum-bag, lol. And besides, delivery person wages here are really low.

Well, in most cases I am ordering enough for a group of people. It is only a large tip when I am ordering little. Most places here have a $10 minimum order and don't charge extra for delivery.

No, nobody tips at a restaurant where your food isn't brought to you.

1) I wouldnt consider using a check for a 6 dollar payment, but I suppose the delivery guy would accept it.

2)No, but in Sweden everything is so expensive that tipping would break your economy (besides, the one delivering the pizza probably have the same wage as the one receiving it, so it would feel silly to pay a tip in that circumstance). The exception would be if the pizza costs something like 47 :- and you have a 50 :- - bill, then I usually let the delivery boy keep the change. But no formal tips.

Most of the pizza places around here take checks. I don't like Dominos, so I don't know if they do, but I suspect so. ;)

I always tip delivery drivers, generally 15-20%. If I can't tip, I go pick something up instead.
