(OT) Pizza delivery questions

Wow... I would never do that. But then, customer service in Australia is, at least in my experience, pretty crappy.

I've heard from both Australians who have lived in America and Americans that have come to Australia, that service in America is FAR superior, in general. The service assistants or salespeople go out of their way to help and are kind and friendly in America. In general, I've found most service people and salespeople in Australia to be brusque, sometimes rude, mostly unhappy people who rush through the transaction like they're late for a more important event.

Perhaps we should introduce mandatory tipping :)

Well this guy is very nice. Always greets me by name, knows my usual order. If there is a long time sometimes calls the order back so it is ready when I get up to the cashier, etc. Very nice guy. :D

Actually, come to think of it, there was one woman who was nice to me but since she worked in a deli in a supermarket, I could hardly tip her. In Australia, the supermarkets sell their chickens at half price after they've been there for a while. She used to give them to me for half of half the price because she knew I was poor. Pity she doesn't work there anymore.

I guess it comes down to the person. In the same store I've had awful experiences with some of the staff there. One girl in particular was so incredibly rude that I complained to the store owner repeatedly until she was fired. Like I need to take crap from a friggin' deli chick. Nobody messes with me and gets away with it...

1. Don't know. Haven't ordered from Dominoes for a very, very long time. I haven't ordered out for pizza in a long time. I just get frozen pizzas.

2. If I were to order pizza, I would tip (as I have in the past). Something I got from my parents I guess.

1. Sadly, checks are obsolete. You should be able to pay with a credit or debit card over the phone, though. I don't think they expect you to hit the ATM.

2. In the US, always tip your delivery person. They're out driving around in crappy weather so you don't have to. Plus, their hourly wage stinks.

1. We always pay cash!

2. We always tip. I worked as a driver back in college!

When you wonder why it's taking so long to get your order and you don't tip, trust me its not the traffic. :)

One quick story about bad customers...

There was once a lady that lived about 8 miles from the store. The managers would always take her $10.00, so someone would have to drive a 16 mile round trip to deliver to her.(most deliveries are on average round trip of 3 miles) Delivering to her was a pain and you lost money in the process.

When a driver would arrive, the lady would make him wait at the door for 15 minutes while she found her checkbook. Her house stunk and her dog would jump on whoever was at the door. Then she would stiff the driver (meaning no tip whatsoever for that long annoying trip)

Most restaurants are busy at certain points of the night and then tend to die down, so if you got this delivery in the middle of the rush period, you could end up making $18-25 less than the other drivers in the night. Nobody wanted to take this delivery.

Some of the more petty drivers began to take things into thier own hands. (not me of course.) They never spit or did anything like that to the pizza that I know of. One driver decided that driving home and doing laundery on her delivery was more important than getting the food to her on time. He also chose to keep the food safe in his freezer while doing his laundry.

When he showed up, he said "Digiorno", hinting that they should buy frozen pizza because that's all that they would be getting from this place in the future...

You might say that this is crude and so typically American, but heed my warning!!! If you can't tip $2 don't bother because next time you might be waiting for someone's wash to finish before they come to bring you your food. Drivers know who the good tippers are and they are very carefull to presever those people's business. Those who don't tip are castaways. :)

Sorry for the length of this post!

The service level of pizza delivery guys and McDonalds is roughly the same. Pizza is delivered, but it's included in the price.

#1: The one close to me wants my cheCK :) address to match the address they are delievering to.

#2: My brother has been in the pizza business for 6 years now, so I always tip. He has told me about horror stories of things he has seen done to pizza ordered by someone they know does not tip.

First Domino's Pizza doesn't directly support right-to-lifers. We shouldn't, of course, debate abortion or anything here, but y'all may want to look at the facts of this story.

Second, why would anyone order pizza from Domino's? It's foul and disgusting. Papa John's is far better, although if you've got a real pizza joint around the corner, it's bound to be better than PJ's. (We've got Asheville Pizza & Brewing Company, a fantastic place that delivers). I've always been able to use a cheCK for delivery payments.

Third, in the US, both consumer and vendor expects a tip to be part of the cost of a pizza and a meal in a sit-down restaurant. If the consumer doesn't pay that part of the cost, they're cheating the system. And if you don't pay for what you receive, you shouldn't expect to receive it in the future.

We usually tip 2-3 bucks for pizza, around 10-15% of our total cost. Based on what people are suggesting here, though, I may change that to a flat $3 tip.
