(OT) Pizza delivery questions

1. Yes, we take checks. Also credit cards. Both are easier for me to keep track of than cash, but are a bit more annoying to process.

2. If you don't tip, you WILL get tossed to the end of my list in the future. I don't get paid enough to deal with the people out there who think tipping is optional. I consider about 10% to be decent, 15-20% if there is some unusual condition. (very bad roads, you're 10 miles from the store, 12 pizza order, etc)

I worked as a pizza delivery guy for Pizza Hut back in college - briefly. They paid their driver a fee for each delivery made, and 90% of the customers also tipped at least a little. I think it's safe to assume that most customers in the US tip, or at least the drivers expect them to...

1)nope. Cheques are very passé in the Netherlands.

2)Yes I do. I lived in the states long enough to tip, especially when the weather is nasty (like it usually is when I order Piza).
Actually, Cheques have been considered illegal methods of payment since January 1st 2002.

So, no, I don't pay with cheques :D. Anyway, I usually tip, unless it took an hour for them to get it to me while they said 40 minutes or something.

I'm with Morrus (surprise!). I wouldn't try and pay for delivered food by cheque (as we call them :D), because they probably wouldn't take it. It's pretty much either pay over the phone by credit or debit card, or pay cash on delivery.

And with tipping, I normally let them keep the change up to the nearest pound. As Morrus said, tipping isn't such a thing in the UK, but letting them keep the change is a simple, nice way of behaving.

Of course, if it's 20mins late or whatever, forget it. I want my 43pence change, dammit! :D

Hello Matt :)

I agree with you about not paying by cheque. I always pay for Chinese by cash (I don't order pizza - I get it myself).

I disagree with Morrus about tipping. I always give a £1 or 2 ($1.50 - $3) unless the service is very bad.

Second, why would anyone order pizza from Domino's? It's foul and disgusting. Papa John's is far better, although if you've got a real pizza joint around the corner, it's bound to be better than PJ's. (We've got Asheville Pizza & Brewing Company, a fantastic place that delivers).
We don't have Domino's or PJ's here, that I know of, but we do have PIzza Haven and Pizza Hut, both of which make really crappy, really expensive pizzas. I seriously don't know how or why these chains are so successful when the local pizzeria is almost always MUCH better.

There is a chain that is starting to grow here called Big Daddy's but part of their game is that they don't deliver. Which is a shame because their pizzas are very cheap and quite tasty.

I've always been able to use a cheCK for delivery payments.
That's amazing. How does your economy work when all that is required of you is to make a mark on a piece of paper? :D

I almost always pay for Pizza with a check, I actually just threw away one of my fav pizza places menu because they stopped taking them.

Pizza in Chicago is more expensive than where everyone else lives, I can't think of the last time a pizza cost me less that 16 bucks.

The tip depends on the place. Some places throw a $2-3 delivery charge, which goes dircetly to the driver, a forced tip if you will. I don't tip those people very much. Otherwise $2-3 for a $20 order.

We used to use beads, but those got too heavy to carry around.

Big Daddy's is in Aussie land! It must be sheer coincident. There is a small chain here in the Dallas area by that name. It doesn't deliever either but you can usally get a ton of pizza for not a lot of money.

How do you think the goverment makes dollar bills? ;)

Yes and yes...

I live in a college town and all the pizza joints here will take whatever form of payment possible. Well not really, I've never given the pizza guy a credit card, but checks are accepted everywhere.

As far as tipping goes, I have to tip. I would just feel like such a schmuck if I didn't, even if only a buck.

And by the way, Dominoes is prohibited from my house simply because the wife can't stand it. We always order from the local place... Go "5 Star Pizza" woohoo!! and plus they're right around the corner...

I think I'd rather eat cardboard than Domino's pizza. Not sure if I'd be able to tell the difference.

But I always pay in cash, and I always tip at least a couple bucks -- more if it's a big order.

Unfortunately, I live in Boston where the pizza sucks ass. I miss living in Illinois . . . you could go to a random pizza place an hour-and-a-half out of Chicago and buy better pizza than you can find anywhere in Boston.

*sigh*
