(OT) - Question for those living in San Diego

Hi gang,

WizarDru and I will be visiting San Diego starting tomorrow (wednesday). A friend of ours (one of our old friends from our earlier gaming days) is getting married at the Point Loma Lighthouse area. I was wondering if anyone who happens to live in SD could give us a few recommendations?

- what to see?
- where is good to catch some music and a bite to eat?
- of course, is there any good gaming stores?
- anything else that is a must see.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Okay, I may be guilty of not taking full advantage of the city in which I live but I'll give it a shot. Or you can try www.sdinsider.com. Also, how long were you planning on staying?

You could wander around Seaport Village, there are some decent seafood restaurants there. I like the Fish Market. There are also quite a few good restaurants downtown, some with live bands.

Balboa Park is also a nice place to hang out. A few museums and the zoo is right there, too.

I normally go to my local comic book store for my gaming needs but there is also a place called Game Empire in Mission Valley (I think its the Friar's Rd. exit off the 163) and another place called Game Towne in Old Town. There are also some good Mexican restaurants in Old Town with freshly made tortillas (yum). I don't remember the names of the ones I've been to but they've all been pretty good.

That's all I can think of right now. If I think of anything else I'll post.

Based on personal experience I'd have to recommend Game Towne over Game Empire. The staff is friendlier and more knowledgable. Besides which, they discount DnD stuff from Wizards.:)

Balboa park is a good place to go. The zoo, museums, picnic grounds etc. It's popular with schools, so it can be filled with school groups around lunchtime on school days.

Too bad you won't be coming on a Tuesday. On Tuesdays the park museums have a free day once a month. Part of an agreement with the city.

Along with the usual attractions you can find via San Diego Insider.com we have our own named earthquake fault (The Rose Canyon), a major construction zone downtown (new baseball park, delayed 18 months by legal action), and the largest bison herd west of the Rockies (At Camp Pendleton. On base the buffalo have the right of way.).

BTW, I hold my Unicorn Plains game on Wednesday night. Email me privately if you'd like particulars.
