If you could travel back in time only once but you were not allowed to interact or change history (like a ghost, nobody would notice you) when and where would you go?

You would only be able to observe.

wow, do we get language skills to go with our visit? most everyplace i want tog o and see what was going on i wouldn't understand a word that was said :)
 

I think maybe watching the Constitutional Convention in Philladelphia back in 1787. The deliberations might have been rather interesting. Of course they may also have been extremely tedious, but it would be nice to know.

I know just enough German to get an idea of what's being said. :) Besides that, just seeing the events by themselves is news enough. :)

that may work for you, my faux royalty friend, but i wanna know some crystal glaze and porcelain goodness form some people who speak what turned into chinese 500 years later :)

Or maybe the first contact between man and and interstellar life form, depending on your view point thats either in the past or future.
