[OT-Rant] What is UP with Talon Comics??

Kantrip, please. As a long time customer of Talon's (since he started posting on these boards), I know that the recent lapses/delays in orders are *not* usual for him. Talon has a very good reputation in my mind. If you're new to ordering from him, then yes, his recent troubles are going to look bad, but for those who've delt with him for a long time no such stigma exists.

It's not his devoted loyalist crowd of customers I'm worried about (however many that may be, and I'm sure it accounts for fair share of his business). It's everyone else (like potential new customers who heard bad things) you have to watch out for. Call it an overreaction if you wish, but a bad reputation can haunt you forever, so why run the risk?

Because that bad reputation is undeserved. Talon, until three months ago, has been the most serious and helpful retailer I've ever found. Do you understand that? This is not his usual way of business, he is in a bad moment, he don't deserve that bad reputation, KK...

Well, I for one have never ordered from Derek... mostly because I live in Europe and the shipping/duty costs that brings with it. However, this still makes me a potential new customer for Talon.

In my mind, having been here for some time now, Derek is a really nice guy who has received much praise for his service in the past. I know Horacio orders from him and that also for me is a kind of a "yardstick" for measuring.

Now, on to my point. I just spent over $250 on some Internet ordered gaming goods. I was thinking about getting it from Talon, but in the end I decided on a UK website for one, and one reason only in the end: The shipping and Duty. The fact is, it wasn't until AFTER I had ordered my stuff that I noticed this thread and started watching it. Now, still being a prospective customer the question is: has this thread, and Derek's recent troubles, given him a "bad reputation" in my mind. The answer is no.

It is unfortunate that some people had a bad experience, but hey let's be realistic about the situation. If Derek was out sacrificing babies, then MAYBE that would give him a bad reputation in my eyes after how he has behaved both as a person and professionally before the unfortunate recent events. But since that doesn't seem to be the case I will keep my ear to the ground and wait for the troubles to pass over and then re-evaluate the Talon situation at that time and hey, maybe the duty isn't that bad (I have yet to ask Horacio on the matter). Besides sometimes I just NEED that latest release NOW!!!!! :D

I guess I'm a brain-numbed zombie loyalist or something, but this isn't going to affect any future orders I place with Talon. In the past (And I've been ordering from him basicly since he started posting around here, along time ago), I've had nothing but prompt, helpfull, friendly, and proffesional service from Talon. He has gone to some lengths to track down items for me, shipping has always been very prompt, the items well packed, and in good condition.

Ever since his trouble began, I have deliberatly NOT ordered from him... I knew there would be people who would order from him even with the problems, and I had no wish to add to that mess.

And for those of you who said he should have posted something on his website... go look. He did.

Thanks a lot for the trust, Will.

Seriously, I've spent hundred of dollars on Taloncomics and Derek has always be the most helpful and friendly retailer I've ever found.

Twice he even sent me the items BEFORE I payed him the shipping costs, i.e., I sent the money for the book ans asked for the shipping costs, and when he answered he already had shipped the item and told me the shipping costs, and asked me to send the money with my next order. Do you think a normal retailer would do that for a guy that lives half a world away?

I'm not talking about the slackers or drones, I'm talking about the top level executives who fought and clawed their way to the top and who must constantly fight to stay there. And if you worked in a place without office politics, then tell me where, cause I need a job in a place like that! ;)

You mean the top executives like the folks at Kenneth Lay, and his various friends at Worldcom, Enron and a host of companies all currently under prosecution?

It might shock you to know I've worked with billionaires who didn't screw everyone to get where they were...they just did their jobs extremely well, and brought folks along for the ride. Hard as it is to believe, Corporate America is perhaps more ethical now that it has been for the last 200 years. It's not like anyone's worried about Rockefeller's leg-breakers coming around to beat them bloody for asking for a pay-increase. People with money, regardless of their origin, have been influencing people and governments since long before America existed.

And don't worry, KK, you aren't hurting your standing here. Not that you had much of one to begin with, AFAIK.

Well now that he's back and most of the trouble is over with I do believe it's time to place an order. :)

To, Paladin and Wife: Will you be posting here or on ~D's site when you've figured out the 15% thing on the bags? Because I've been really wanting to get one and that pushed me over the edge! :D And can you tell Derek that Sean Ridener from Michigan sends his best to him and his wife for me?

Thanks!
