Speights sounds familiar.

Is Montieth's Black Beer a stout?

Yep.

Used to be brewed in a small batch brewery near Greymouth (West coast of the South Island). i think one of the big breweries has taken it over now though :(

That's a true fan. My dad has the whole colection as well as the Pirates from the 70's. He had to do a lot of drinking to get them all, but he feels the sacrifice was worth it. Of course Mom has had them packed away since 78, so who's to say if the collection is still all there.

There may be some real value there. I saw a show once about a beer can museum. They were trying to complete their collection of an example of every beer can ever produced in American

Darraketh and Crothian,

No, the name isn't just for this thread, was my nickname in college.

As to the Steelers and Pirates on the cans, those were the days!!!! It is a pitty I don't have those cans anymore.

Even though the Pirates aren't good and the Steelers are having trouble--I still believe. But, it's now hockey season! Go Penguins!

I'm seriously considering brewing my own. I'm partial to stouts.

Now that's the best way to get your favorite beer... 5 gallons at a time. I've got an Oktoberfest Lager in the basement for our Halloween party as well as some Black Dragon Mead. :D

Another Columbus person on the boards, it's like a plague. A good plague, but a plague none the less ;)

A friend's got some some ale brewing for her Halloween party as well.

Edit: Then of course there is the fact that you are that friend. :D

The most popular beer in America is Coors Light, I believe. We actually just studied a case (not a 24-pack) about good ol' Golden, CO and Coors in school.

My favorite beer is Leinenkugel's Red, brewed in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Which they don't sell in the attempted city that is St. Louis (I'm from Chicago, so don't bother trying to change my opinion).

My favorite import is Guiness, though I've heard it tastes better in England because they only ship it in concentrated form to the states. I'd love for someone to prove or disprove that rumor for me.

Ya, it really is a pity they don't do that kind of thing. Even though I only managed to goto one Pirate game this year, and really can't tell you many of the players I still am a fan, just not a good one. And then there's the Steelers. If I start on that topic, I'll rant for hourse. Hockey season is here and I have two tickets New Years Eve for the Penguins and Bluejackets. The game is here in town, and the seats are great. :D

Well, amongst Kazakhstani beer, I'd have to say Tyan Shan. It is a JSC with Heineken and brewed here. I'd say it was my fave here, too.

As for imports, I really like Belgian White beer, like Hoegaarten (sp?) A few restaurants carry it in Almaty. However, I had never seen it in the states.

I think Enforcer is right about Coors Light being the most popular "beer" in the States right now.

That just proves that most of my fellow Americans don't know beer from antifreeze.

My favorite domestic beer has to be Saranac (they're pretty local to Upstate NY, so I doubt many others here are familiar with them). Their stouts are a sort of semi-stout, but not bad taste-wise, and their ales are pretty good.

Guinness is a tremendously popular import around here, but we've got a bar called "the Chapter House" which has about 30 taps. Of which, at any given time, 10 or so are imports. It makes it tough to pick a favorite when you can get so much goodness on tap. :D
