[OT] What is the best selling beer in your country?

Ya, it really is a pity they don't do that kind of thing. Even though I only managed to goto one Pirate game this year, and really can't tell you many of the players I still am a fan, just not a good one. And then there's the Steelers. If I start on that topic, I'll rant for hourse. Hockey season is here and I have two tickets New Years Eve for the Penguins and Bluejackets. The game is here in town, and the seats are great. :D

Well you made one more Pirate game than I did. Kinda hard to get there from Richmond. And for the Steelers, I'm sure there are quite a few of us who could go on for hours. Where the heck is the defense?

Now hockey games, ahhhh. I'm trying for free tickets for Washington vs. Pittsburgh, know someone there. I'm not that far from Carolina either so I'd like to try there. Will be back in the Burgh for Xmas and try to go to a game there. Now those tickets you have, my be worth something to go to if Mario plays. Even if he doesn't score, it's fun to watch him.

And for the beer thread again--IRON CITY!!!!

My favorite import is Guiness, though I've heard it tastes better in England because they only ship it in concentrated form to the states. I'd love for someone to prove or disprove that rumor for me.

The Guinness we get in cans here in the States is brewed in Canada. Here's a really good paper on the subject:
http://pages.stern.nyu.edu/~tucci/courses/b65.3356/21Guinness.pdf

By the way, Harp Lager is also brewed in Canada. The Fosters we get here is , too, as is Carlsberg Lager.

Ki-Rin, along with several other "Asian" beers (Not Sapporo, though), is brewed in the US by Anheuser-Busch.

I've seen pint cans of Guiness where when you shook it, it sounded like a paint can. Not good.

I've also been to a couple of places where I've seen it on tap.

As to where it's brewed, couldn't tell you. Guess you could say it's like Killian's brewed by Coors, Sam Adams that used to be brewed by Iron City, and (blah) Ice house brewed by Miller.

I'm almost 100% certain Bud is the dishwater of choice in this country.

My favorite domestic? Sierra Nevada Pale Ale has never let me down. They make excellent seasonals too.

Favorite import? Newcastle, hands down. If it's better in England, book me a ticket right now. I haven't been too hosed on the price around here, it's about the same as all English beers.

Guinness is up there too, but I've gotta be in a real, mmm, certain mood to quaff that. When I'm in that mood, nothing else will do. But Newcastle I can drink about 99% of the time and be very satisfied.

According to the article I mentioned above, that would be the "Widget" - it's necessary in cans of Gunness draught because of the lower concentration versus other canned beers - it's a ball that releases liguid nitrogen into the beer when the can is opened. Solves pressure issues they had in the 80s

Good to know. Thanks. Guess I'll still look for the draft version. Pour and drink, no shaking.

This year, for the first time, Fosters made more profit off its wine sales than its beer sales.

Australia used to be a big wine-drinking country until a plague wiped out all our grapes - the pendulum is swinging back in favour of wines now.

Cheers!

From the Foster's site

Beer is a healthy drink in moderation- it's rich in vitamins B6 and B12 and essential amino acids. It's produced by natural fermentation and contains all natural ingredients.

That said...
The number one selling beer in the U.S. is Budweiser, followed by Bud Light, Coors Light, Miller Lite......and the others.....

As to Fosters, to put it inot perspective for those of us in the U.S.
Just imagine if all the Aussies knew of American beer was Busch!

Oh...and as to my favorite U.S. domestic....
Shiner Bock

Favorite Imports.....
Guinness
Harp
Moosehead.
Dos Equis (sp?)
