Hiya All :)

This is actually a member called Gellion, but i cannot log onto my old account, and i tried e-mailing an admin, but i never got a response. :(

Now, to the topic. I myslef am a P&P gamers, but i also like CRPGs. And when i say CRPG, i do not mean ANY of the D&D based games. But games like the Final Fantasy series, or other console RPGs. This thread is for misconceptions that P&P gamers have about them.

1. Just because it looks like an Elf, does not mean it is an Elf. An exmaple of this is Ghaleon in Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete. Although he may look like an Elf, he is clearly said as being a Human in the game. I have met many a P&P gamer who seems to think every individual with pointy ears and that is lithe. In any game, is automatically an Elf.

Or perhaps a Vulcan?

Didn't that game also have a character who had a horn in the center of his forehead? Who is to say who's human and who's not.

Huh. I always thought CRPG meant "Computer RPG" rather than "Console RPG."

Although I'm a P&P gamer, I also love video game RPGs. Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Diablo, Temple of Elemental Evil (the PC game, not the module), Final Fantasy, Lands of Lore, Crono Trigger, the old AD&D Gold Box Games, Dungeon Master, the Bard's Tale, Wizardry, etc. All are games that I've played and loved.

I have noticed that many P&P RPGers tend to look down dismissively at CRPGs, but I'm not ashamed to admit that if it weren't for CRPGS, I probably would have never started playing P&P RPGs.

Those were Beastmen. Who seemed to, in the game, get lumped into the category of Humans. Okay, enough about Lunar. Lets get back on topic.:)

Misconception: you get better roleplaying and character depth in MMORPGs than in single player games, because you're dealing with real humans. Not so. MMORPG players don't pass the Turing test. :D

MMORPG players don't pass the Turing test.

Sad, but true.

They wouldn't pass any grammar test, either. :D

Single players CRPG are devoid of the arms race contest, so you don't need to spend your time killings rats to gain XP.

Also, when game developpers don't count on the players to bring their own stories, they are forced to create a good plot. Or, at least, a plot.

Ultima 7, Ultima Underworld 2, the Elder Scrolls series, Arx Fatalis, all those were good games. Action/CRPG like the System Shocks, Thief, or Deus Ex are cool too.

But MMMMBURPG are just sad.

And I won't count Diablo as a CRPG.
