[OT] What sport do you Play?

Next month I'll start curling two or three nights a week
for the winter, with the odd bonspiel thrown in. How
Canadian of me. :)

As for other organized sports, I stopped playing men's
league baseball a few years ago. I'll still play in the odd
one-day softball tournament.

Mostly, I'll just play pick-up football with friends, or when
winter hits, and ice freezes, pick-up hockey at the outdoor
rink.

Hermph.

Depends on the school, but I've found most good martial arts places are better for geeks than jocks. Martial arts (unless you're doing martial SPORTS, like tournament fighting) isn't competitive, requires concentration and discipline instead of raw adrenaline, and works better when you're not controlled by your ego. The stereotypical geek will have an easier time than the stereotypical jock, once past the "this is how your put your feet" part, where the jock has the advantage based purely on athleticism.

Indeed, Martial arts are great (!!!) for geeks. But these are not to be confused with martial sports ie; World taekwon-Do federation or "WTF" Olympic taekwon-Do, Boxing, & Tae-Boxing

As takyris said it's custom built for geeks. You level, gain new skills & abilities. It's as mental or phys. as you want it to be. :)

Agreed. It's also something that involves a great deal of esoteric knowledge and provides plenty of opportunities to prove how clever you are and how you know things that other people don't.

Much like UNIX, comic books and role-playing games.

I'm such a geek.

I chase kids.

In the past, though, I've been fairly decent at volleyball, soccor, canoeing, rock-climbing and fencing. Still, I've always been more of a dabbler than a serious jock of any kind. Luckily I used to be generally coordinated enough, and possessed enough endurance, to play just about anything and not make a fool of myself.

Of course, now I'm about 40-50 lbs heavier and spend most of my day flat on my butt in an office chair.

See, I was one of those kids went from five feet tall to six foot four in about a week. Never really got with the coordination thing. Scarred me for life, I tell you.

I can imagine. I was 6' at age 14, and I haven't grown more than an inch since.

Of course, my waist was a 28" then -- it's now about a 36"... I was a really skinny teenager, albeit one with a kind of wiry, slightly "tougher than I look", rough-n-ready, something or other about me. Now I just look like a mildly out of shape 30-year old corporate swill. Although at least we're "business casual" so I don't have to be a mildly out of shape 30-year old corporate suit!
