[OT] What's your favorite song(non-gaming)?

Either

Roads by Portishead

or perhaps

Safe from Harm by Massive Attack

or even

Smack my bitch up by The Prodigy

or maybe

Dancing Queen by Abba

or if in a disco mood

It's raining men by the Weather Girls (not Geri's naff cover version).

Depends on my state of mind

Oujo-Sama to Oyobi! (or Call me Princess) by I've no idea who. Some guy who worked on Tenchi Muyo I guess. Very good song about S&M. ;)

JIMMY EAT WORLD

Mofos. :) I adore the 'crimson and clover' from their Bleed American....juicy....

I also enjoy Lucky Boy's Confusion...as can be seen in the sig. Though Of Course isn't their best (I'd go with something like Not About Dora...I think that's the title...)

Billy Joel, Sinatra, GNR, The Doors, Blue Oyster Cult....all have their moments of musical glory. At the moment, though, I'm affraid the world-eatin' wins out, since it transcends quite a few moods for me...

Blind Guardian, "And Then There Was Silence..."
It's a 13-14 minute song about the Iliad. Oh how I love the Iliad. And oh how I love Blind Guardian.

Previous favorites:

Almost anything else by Blind Guardian. With the exception of "Black Chamber" I don't think I've heard anything that I don't like by them.

Dream Theater, "Change of Seasons"
Another long one, 23 minutes, about a guy looking back over his whole life before he dies

Hammerfall, "Glory to the Brave"
A Viking-esque funeral hymn. Probably still the best metal ballad I've ever heard.

Mozart, "Moonlight Sonata"

Metallica, "Unforgiven" (that is the king of Metallica songs to me)

Iced Earth, "Holy Martyr" Being a Catholic fellow that thinks that Christian music blows and prefers heavy metal songs about satan (based on musical issues, not content) it was nice for a darker band to throw us Christian folks a bone on how to make good music- also see Oh My Jerusalem, Sadly Sings Destiny, and Another Holy War, all by Blind Guardian

Iced Earth, the Something Wicked Trilogy I need to run a d20 Modern or Cthulhu style game based on this some time

"American Pie" a classic in every way

"Yesterday" The Beatles (esp with the Cowboy Bebop music video)

For literary crossovers (of which I am fond, since I think art is at its best when it reaches across multiple genre) I like Iron Maiden (Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, Brave New World), Metallica (Call of Cthulhu, The Thing That Should Not Be), Iced Earth (The Dark Saga album, about Spawn), and, not surprisingly, Blind Guardian (Nightfall on Middle Earth, Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Soulforged [yes, about Raistlin], all their King Arthur songs [too many to list], etc etc)

I guess I went overboard.

But there's one more, for pure humor value:

Ludicris, "You's a Ho"

I have extremely eclectic musical tastes so this at first seemed like a difficult choice however there was one that I never get sick of hearing so I'd probably have to say...

Children by Robert Miles.

Regardless of 'mix', I just love this song and can always tune into it.

Aside from that, I'm much like Drawmack in that it really depends on mood. One minute I can be listening to Tori Amos In the Pink, the next minute I'm LMAO off to Limp Bizkit (I really love their music as I think it's mainly comedy and taking the piss and it just sounds good), and then I'll chill to Floyd (Animals is my favourite album) or if I'm feeling pretty dark then Nick Cave and the Badseeds is always a good choice.

I love older music as well and particularly like the music compilations on Pulp Fiction and Good Morning Vietnam. Sinead O'Connor gets me all riled up with Universal Mother but then I'll cool right down with Lou Reed.

Boppy music with a bit of a funky twist lightens my mood so I like listening to Bjork every now and then but if I really feel jazzed up, I'll put on Morphine (such a shame he died, they were damn good).

Then for sheer listening pleasure, I'd say Queen or Massive Attack or Moby or Enigma or Robert Miles (again).

My favourite, all time BAND, however, is Laika. Go check them out at http://www.laika.org/ as they deserve all the praise and support any new fans can give them. They embrace and reflect pretty much everything I love about music. Oh, and they've got six FULL mp3 samples of their songs. Black Cat Bone is probably my favourite of the free ones.

I have many favorites, but if I were forced to name one right now, it would be,

"Kathy's Song," by Paul Simon

Ask me again tomorrow, I'll likely tell you something different.
