You have the test map in view only mode so no one will be able to move the spider until we have the ability to edit.

EDIT: ninja'd!

I have also played in games where the player has more agency and I've really enjoyed it and was looking for a way to connect more with this game.
Both legibility and player agency are important to me, so I'm willing to experiment.

Try the map again, and see if you can add a shape (for example, a circle with a 20' radius centered on the spider, and make the circle either non-filled or transparent) to reflect an area of effect spell in place. Other than character placement, I primarily use maps to reflect spells in effect. A big factor for me in determining the viability of this test run is whether players can easily edit in not only their character's movement but also layer AoE spells their character casts.

I wouldn't be able to use my mobile if the players were responsible for their positions. I'd suggest maybe using dropbox to share the file?
I don't want this comment to get lost in the flurry of posts. Everyone needs to have the same access. Try the Google Draw link, Yavathol, and please report back whether you can move the spider. If you can't, I'll do a test run using Dropbox (later today or tomorrow, though). FYI, Dropbox is probably going to require everyone have MS Excel, because that's the file I'd upload.

It's also possible that we could do BOTH a shared link (either Google Draw or Dropbox) AND I'd continue to map images in the IC for those without access. More work on my end, so would depend on my home access to Google Draw...which looks to be lightening fast today at work but I know from experience is slower than f-ing molasses from my house (because I live in the sticks).

(Back to the game -- Before Solace moves. Thanks for the disadvantage on the lock. Is this something that Solace needs to maintain round-by-round? Can she make it harder to get out? If it has to be maintained, she'll maintain it; if not, she'll clear some space...)

If Solace wants to maintain pressure on the door round-by-round by pressing her body (or some other heavy object?) against the door, I'll make the Str check DC 17 with disadvantage. If Solace wants to do stuff other than maintain pressure on the door, she could leave her lock picks jammed in the lock, which will result in Str DC 15 with disadvantage. If Solace wants to take off with her lock picks in hand, then it'll be a straight-up Str DC 15 check for Asha. Or the spider. Or Ilvara. Or the big fat freaking demon they're currently busy conjuring inside the altar room.

I can do an AoE on the map, centered on the spider, but I can only color the ring around the 20' radius circle. I can't fill the circle with a color and then set the transparency as a percentage (which is what I can do in Excel). Looks like transparency in Google Draw is binary (a shape is either fully transparent, or not at all). I'm ok with that.

But I still want to hear from Yavathol and the others about their access, and from all of you about how fast or slow the Google Draw map loads.
