Like the Cold Iron/Alchemical Silver/etc. rules or not, we simply didn't really let PCs cart around a golfbag o' weapons. Encumberance was pretty strictly enforced, and there weren't too many hyperdimensional wonderous items floating around.

This meant that occasionally, you had to find another way to "skin the fey."

Well, just give them Vulnerability X to cold iron

I kind of miss my cold iron weapons to be honest. Then again, there's better ways now to make fey different from other monster types.
