And Iron Maiden is one of those old-skool 'good ol' days' metal bands- they never had big hair, unlike so many of the bad ones...

It has to do with the crap Bruce Dickenson has been saying about Ozzy since the tour started. Apparently he told some metal rag that Ozzy uses teleprompters, and the only reason he's popular again is because of reality TV. He then goes on to say that he knows his lyrics by heart, and Maiden doesn't need reality TV to be the most popular metal band in the world. He was also dissing POzzy's sound system. I think what's really eating him is that he considers the band (probably rightfully) to be better than Ozzy, but they have a hard time selling enough tickets in the US, which is why they tour in South American countries and in Europe. I think its general disdain for a large part of the American audience.
Sharon and Kelly took offense to his comments, and the rest is history.
My sympathies still lie with Maiden in this matter.

Bruce is kind of notorious for his planet sized ego. He thought he was so awesome that he left Maiden for seven years to go solo, only to end up being little more than a Maiden tribute act, and then rejoined them when their replacement singer more or less did the same thing. Now that he's back with them and they're basically as popular as they were before they crashed, his ego has inflated like a balloon once again. Don't get me wrong, I love the music, and I do think he's intelligent and has some interesting things to say, but when it comes to this little tiff, he did throw the first stone.

), then proceeded to demonstrate the diference between singing and shouting/groweling for the other bands to learn from. Regardless, does it really matter what was said? The fact that the tour organizer (Sharon) would set up something like this, with the cooperation of some of the other musicians on the tour (thankfully many of the bands refused to participate) is just beyond my comprehension. She could have taken the higher gound, but decided to act like a bully and attack when the band couldn't do anything about it. Maiden comes out looking best, and she ends up just looking like a catty bitch. If this had happened at the show I was at, I would have demanded my money back, as Maiden was the only band on the bill I wanted to see. All the openers were awful, and we left before Sabbath even hit the stage.

You've seen them recently? I saw Maiden once in 1987 (I think), and I'd love the chance to see them again live.
